EXACTLY! ITA! I don't understand how anyone can be ok with this..

This is ONE article, from a writer with a pretty clear pro-Hillary bias. I feel this is a more objective look at all the candidate's plans: Politifact

I think people forget that whoever is elected will have to get his/her plan through Congress. I prefer to vote for someone who's not a warmonger misogynist asshole even if it means being taxed a little more.

I cant vote in primary...Im registered Democrat...but voting Republican

You can vote (you said you can't), but you choose not to.

She can't vote for a Republican if she is a registered Democrat - she can only vote Democrat - which she is choosing to not do.

Yes, I understand that. I don't know, but maybe I have her confused with another poster, but IIRC, she's been pretty pro-Trump for a while now. I would have thought she would have changed parties to vote for him.

I understand being registered as an independent, but I don't really understand supporting a candidate for so long and then being registered to another party and then not being able to vote for them-- especially in this election.

NY makes it hard to change parties for the primary. I think it needed to be done last October or November. Many people didn't know that.

Wow, didn't know you had to be registered to a party to vote on a party. Here (Texas) they don't care. If you are a registered voter, your vote counts. You could only vote for one party though so you had to choose there, but it didn't mean you were committing to that party from then on.

I am unaffiliated to any party and I voted for Sanders.

ETA: I know someone who's registered Republican but voted for Clinton because she was afraid of Trump. LOL They really don't care what your card says. You vote as you please. You just can only vote for one party.

NY has a close primary, meaning you have to vote for someone in the party that you are registered as. Texas has an open primary, so you can vote for either party. Every state does something different.

Just like some states are winner-take-all delegates and some do a percentage based on counties.

Yeah, I don't want to feel that burn!

Actually it doesn't matter to me because I don't have to pay American taxes (below the foreign earned income threshold).

Because you're choosing to not vote for a democrat in the primary so you're choosing to not vote when you are able to.

WOW...you guys are a tough crowd. That is why I don't talk politics on here. I WILL NOT vote for any of the Democrats that we have as a choice.
I don't see you attacking people who are registered as independent???

No one is attacking! You said you can't vote, we said no, you can but you choose not to and you seemed like you didn't understand why it wasn't a choice.

Independents cannot vote in the primary. Registered dems and repubs can but when they dont, they are choosing not to.

That's all anyone is saying. Sheesh!

Why would anyone ever want to register as an independent? That's such a waste since it disqualified you from primary voting. Register either republican or democrat even if you don't find yourself leaning in that party direction.

This way you can either vote for the guy in the primary you like or you can vote against somebody you don't like to try to block their nomination.

I registered as an independent as at 18 years old, I had no clue about parties or which one I would want to be in (to tell you the truth, I am still clueless with these clowns lol).
I didn't care about primaries at that age and this is the first year I would want to vote but can not.

This - I've since moved and still am registered as independent.

I can't imagine anyone wanting a President of the United States that makes fun of those with special needs...on national TV at that. Great example he sets. Scary society we live in. Scary indeed.

They all are a mess. I watch almost every debate and non stop coverage to get as much educated as I can as many don't really know about the candidates.

He's the most sane of the republican candidates. I don't agree with a lot of his positions and his stance on women is scary but he's the only one of them who makes a stitch of sense.

ITA and sad I can't vote in the primary. I haven't paid attention to politics so didn't know I should/could change.
More people need to watch these debates and interviews and news stories so they will get to know the candidates and not just hear stories about things they did and said as Kasich hasn't gotten much attention as he is not drama-filled like America likes now.

I know LI is largely republican, but I am really shocked at how many people on here are supporting Trump. Especially since this site is 99% women.

YUP! I was JUST thinking the SAME thing when I saw the numbers!

Me three! I always find this board goes very liberal.

Maybe because people (women or men) who make a decent living realize how much their taxes will SKYROCKET under Sanders.

http://americablog.com/2016/03/much-will-sanders-raise-taxes-lot.html

I don't know how anybody can vote for Sanders knowing this. It's insane.

As much as I keep reading how shocked and appalled people are that anyone would support Trump, I am equally as shocked that there are so many Bernie supporters. Especially working people. When I watch the debates, I find him very likable and much more appealing than HRC personality-wise, but his ideas do not work for anyone that makes any sort of income and needs every penny of that income to survive.

People are seeing the increase in taxes, but not looking at the corresponding decrease in insurance premiums. At the end of the day, people would see more money in their paycheck that way.

Mainly because everyone who has heard any candidate make promises over the last several decades realizes, there are "campaign promises" and there is reality. Sanders cannot possibly raise taxes that much, Trump can't possibly build the wall and have Mexico pay for it. Ted Cruz cannot abolish the IRS by 2019. Clinton cannot end anti-LGBT discrimination completely "at home and abroad."
Trump has made promises to increase spending in a lot of areas, rebuilding bridges and infrastructure, policing Muslim neighborhoods, deporting 11 million Mexicans, increase the military, and do all of that while magically cutting taxes tremendously. Math much, Donald?....
I honestly think taxes would increase much more than anything Sanders has in mind if Donald is able to implement a lot of what he is "promising", but his tax increases won't actually help the middle class.

I take everything that every politician says with a grain of salt. Almost none of the big plans that are promised during their campaign ever get implemented. Congress and the public are able to check-and-balance (or outright stop) a lot of activity. I look at what direction the candidate is pointing when they aim for the stars.

From my point of view, Sanders is aiming at helping the Middle Class and below. Trump is aiming at helping himself, and his rich cronies, at the expense of the rest of the country. Neither one will get to their goal, but they will try and make tiny steps in that direction.

The candidates just have their talking points to rile up their base and polarize the voters.

Yes! Most members of congress are rich. Many are millionaires. There is no way they are going to allow Bernie to enact the tax increases he is talking about. I don't agree with the degree to which Bernie wants to increase taxes and I don't think many of his objectives (free college) are doable. However, I do like him, and I think it would be nice to have a few more politicians in power who aren't in the pocket of the Koch brothers, Wall Street and/or other big business.
