Cluster Headaches

Just curious, and it may be a long shot, but was wondering if anyone suffers from cluster headaches? I was diagnosed in 2009 and have a neurostimulator (long story) so my suffering is not of what it used to be but I still suffer. I know how isolated it can feel and was just wondering if there are any other clusterheads on there?

Cluster Headaches

I do not suffer from cluster headaches but I have daily chronic migraine- it is very isolating at times. I just finished a 4 day IV treatment on Thurday and I woke up today with the beginning of a headache- so frustrating

I was diagnosed with complex migraines last year after a 5 day hospital stay (symptoms mimic a stroke which I thought I was having). I had my first migraine ever with aura a few weeks ago, scary as hell and I hope I do not start getting those now too.

It is horrible. I feel your pain. I always had migraines, but as I get older they seem to have a lot of side effects (numbness, dizzy, feeling off).

Same. It is very scary to lose your vision, get numbness in your face, feel like you can't form a coherent sentence, etc. It truly does feel like a stroke.

And it is isolating because most people think that a migraine is just a headache and you can pop a few advil and go on with your day.

When I get a migraine it is absolutely life interrupting- I cannot go on with my day at all. It's not just a headache, it's a neurological event.
And it's very scary.

So yes, I feel your pain- even thought i don't have cluster headaches.

Exactly it is a neurological event...scary and as my neurologist likes to say "your brain went wacky"!!! It is not visable to people on the outside so everyone thinks it is no big deal, but we suffer so bad and have to follow so many "rules" to not have outbreaks all the time.

Re: Cluster Headaches

my mom suffered for years starting in adolescence with migraines. Sometime between the time I was in 3rd grade to 5th grade they were debilitating. like all she could do was lay in a dark room most of the day; she'd get us to school, pick us up and not much else. My dad worked 2 jobs so it was mostly up to me to fend for me and my brother.

at its worst she almost had an aneursysm. She went to the eye dr for an appt and he was like you need to leave here and get to your general dr. asap. She went and he told her that if that vein behind the eye popped she would drop dead. So they admitted her to Columbian Presbyterian for a weekend. I remember her being on tons of meds after that..steroids and such.

they are not as intense now for her, but she still has imitrex and some other med on hand to control it when one starts.

cluster headaches, I cant even imagine. Its terrible. People commit suicide because of them.

Cluster Headaches

Have any of you ever tried a chiropractor? I used to get pretty bad migraines as well....dark room, pop 3 Advil at a time, feeling queasy, the works....then I started seeing a chiro and he changed my life. I almost never get a migraine now. They come so infrequently and when they do, they are much more manageable for me.

I'm so sorry for your mom! I know that feeling all too well. At 28 years old I was on oxygen therapy, laid up in bed for about 5 months. Was on numerous medications that who knows did what to my body. Tried medication and holistic (nothing illegal though, that I refuse).

Yup, the nickname for the headaches are "suicide headaches", not many people know that. It is a very dark place when dealing with them and people don't seem to understand it. While I don't WISH them on even my worst enemy, I was looking to see if anyone else suffers for support. I know when I was diagnosed, all I wanted was someone who understand what I felt and what I was thinking. It was VERY lonely and scary. DH is amazing with it and helps with that he can.

I'm so glad you're mom is doing better!

I tried one for a couple of years. It did not make much difference. I wanted it to help so I kept going but once I stopped I realized it was not making any difference. Biofeedback training really helped me learn to relax.
