Math Help!

i always s u c k e d at math and hoping some of you can help me with this.

Can someone teach me or show me how to figure out if 2 numbers are at least 60% of each other.

Let me explain.
if the first # is 25 and the second number is 49, how can you find out if 49 is at least 60% of the first number?

I am curious to know this too cause I am unsure.

the way I would do it is I would time 25 time it by 60% that would give you 15 then add 25 to it which is then 40 so I would say then I would say yes 49 is at least 60% of 25 its actually more

but I have no idea if I am correct or not Chat Icon

Re: Math Help!

Start with 25 over 49 as a fraction. You are going to cross multiply 25/49 by x/100. So 25 multiplied by 100 and 49 multiplied by x.

25/49 = x/100

2500 = 49x divide both sides by 49 so you have x = ? as your answer.

The answer x = 51.02 that would be your perentage.

So the answer to the question is No 25 is not at least 60% of 49.

I hope this helps! Chat Icon

Do you want to know if 25 is at least 60% of 49, or if 49 is at least 60% of 25. Sorry, I'm a bit confused by the way your question is worded.

I think you mean is 25 at least 60% of 49.... right? If so, I'd just multiply 49 by .60 which gives you 29.4. Since that's more than 25, no, it's not more than 60%.

now seeing all the answers I am even more confusedChat Icon I was thinking you need to know what 60% more of 25 so you would add the 15 to get that. I was doing the opposite of what 60% less of 25 would be (you know if a sale in a store is 60% off a price you would take 25 times its by 60% so that would be 15 off and the price would only 10)

So you want to know the percent increase from 25 to 49? I use the formula: change/original x 100

So in this case 24 (the change or difference between the two numbers) divided by 25 (the original number) and then multiply by 100.

24/25*100= 96. So the answer as I read it would be yes, it's more than a 60% increase.

So 49/25 = 1.96. It's an increase of 96%.

Also, 49-25 = 24. Then 24/25 = 96%.

I was basically doing the opposite on how to figure out what is 60% less than 25 is

IF this is the actual question, then the answer is yes.

25 increased by 100% equals 50.

each item that created the original 25 is equal to 4%

that means that if you start with 25, you would have to increase it by 96% to get to 49.

so, the answer is yes. if you start with 25 and end with 49, in increase was more than 60%.

I think you mean is 25 at least 60% of 49.... right? If so, I'd just multiply 49 by .60 which gives you 29.4. Since that's more than 25, no, it's not more than 60%.

This is what I did. Simplest and fastest method (assuming the question is how you interpreted it, not how it was originally posted). Not the only method, of course. One reason I like math is that there are often several ways to get to the correct answer. As long as you get there, the method doesn't matter so much.
