Re: Trump rallies & protestors

Professional Protesters, that is all it is. They feel their rights are above the rights of everyone else. I watched it on TV last night and nothing about it was peaceful. The thing that is supposed to be great with this country is the ability to have free speech, but that doesn't exist anymore. What would the reaction be if a bunch of Trump supporters protested that way at a Bernie Sanders rally?

These people are intolerant, hateful and should be jailed until after the election.

Re: Trump rallies & protestors

I'm confused by some of the comments on this thread. I've seen 'animals', 'these people should be jailed', etc.

Are you referring to Trump supporters or protestors?

I've been lightly following this story as I have family over for a few weeks, but from what I've read and seen, the supporters are being egged on to "punch the protestors in the face".

Well, that's a hypothetical question, but there have been protests at other rallies. The supporters at those other rallies are not beating up the protestors!

With regards to the first amendment, you do not have the right to say whatever you want, e.g. You can't incite people to violence. The protesters are not violating Trump's free speech right. There is no right to not being interrupted. In fact, the protestors are exercising their rights-- until they are escorted out or, more likely, beaten up by TRump supporters.

The thing that is getting to me is that Trump is such an ego maniac and is accepting no responsibility to the words that he has used to incite these protests.

Re: Trump rallies & protestors

And reading up on this a bit more, I don't think these protests are an accident. Rachel Maddow made a very interesting point about how this violence tactic is used in other countries. It's basic political science.

You can listen to what she said here:

I also just wanted to add in this lovely video of trump supporters Chat Icon

A cell phone video and an article from a liberal site, well if that isn't 100% accurate, I don't know what is.

What really got me was the older woman hailing hitler in support of trump and the whole story behind that.

Not a huge fan of anyone being depicted, but it's not the case that people can always be interrupted without consequences at all. It depends where the speech is occurring. You could get arrested, for example for certain interruptions at a baseball game or a broadway show, for example.

Anyone who acts like an animal and disrupts campaigns should be arrested.

I'm not sure what to think: media on one side makes it sound like it was a free-for-all, and media on the other side makes it sound like it was nothing. It's a circus.

That's the same thing I'm thinking of. I went to a really good documentation center today with my family and DH about the rise of National Socialism and the dangers and history, etc.

There were a few points at the beginning that made us say "Trump". That's all I can keep thinking about now. It's getting dangerous now. He needs to be stopped.

This is exactly the problem! Media is so much to blame for so much of what goes on in the world. So sickeningly skewed depending on what you are watching or reading. I remember watching coverage of the riots months ago on both CNN & Fox. Could not believe the different stories that were being told about the same thing. I have never been political and honestly am embarrassed how little I knew about politics. I've been making more of an attempt to learn all sides and this really opened my eyes. Sickening actually.

Is it ok for someone to attend a candidate's rally for the purpose of protesting? It would not be my cup of tea but if they're not hurting anyone-physically- aren't they within their First Amendment rights? I'm not referring to the crackpot who rushed the stage at Trump, but the people who chant, etc.

Hillary and Bernie, I believe, have been interrupted by protestors, but I don't see their protestors getting roughed up and sucker punched. I still can't get the image of the older man just punching that protestor in the face- and it appeared the protestor was leaving peacefully. And Trump has no problem with that. He does not have to love his protestors- obviously- but he is calling for violence against them and that's wrong.

No one should be surprised this is happening.

The Dokumentation Zentrum in Nuremberg? We went several years ago. What a profound experience. And I agree about Trump.

Re: Trump rallies & protestors

Well I am how hearing that these protesters are actually set up by the republic party. I am starting to believe this and they think they will stop Trump and it is actually getting him more votes song it is not working.

No, but I visited the one in Nuremberg last year and it was really good and same idea.

The one I visited yesterday is a new one that opened up in Munich. Same idea, but it focuses on how and where it happened in Munich.

Uh, what? Is this a serious question?

It was about what happened in Nazi Germany from the end of World War 1 until the denazification period after World War 2 and some things that are happening now. It's a reminder that this does not need to happen again.
