What happens if/when Trump wins the nomination?

I heard a theory or speculation that if trump wins the GOP nom and Hillary wins the democrat nom, Bloomberg is going to run as an independent. If this happens, I believe Bloomberg may win.

I despise Bloomberg, but in this case, that would be a sight for sore eyes. I'd welcome him.

Bloomberg already said he would only run if Sanders beat Clinton. He is not going to play her spoiler. He already said yesterday the chances of him running are next to nill.

I've been watching MSNBC, and earlier tonight, Tom Delay while speaking with chris Mathews said that if Trump wins the popular vote, but does not get more than 60% of the vote, or over the 1200 delegates (even if he was incredibly. close) the RNC would not nominate him for the Republican nominee at the convention. What this says is, the Republican Party is shattering before our eyes. It would be a complete betrayal to democracy.

He said he would run if it were a Bernie/Trump election, now that it looks like Hillary is going to be the democratic pick he will probably not run.

I feel like if Trump wins with the nomination he will make Ted Nugent his running mate.

Hopefully people will wake up that he is unprofessional and lacks character to be the President of the U.S.

What is the recourse? Can the GOP do anything? A third party candidate, anything?

What are the options for the GOP?

Some members of the GOP are talking about a brokered convention to try and take the nomination away from Trump. But, that can only happen if Trump doesn't get enough delegates to secure the nomination. I'm not sure they can do anything if he does.

But, even if they tried to do this, I can see Trump just going independent and taking his groupies with him.

And I think that will be bad for the Republicans. They are dealing with backlash because they are "establishment". If Trump legitimately gets the nomination, they have to accept it because if they don't they will be doing exactly what has driven so many people to Trump in the first place.

If he does not have enough delegates for the nomination outright, I guess that will be a different story.

I am really curious to see what Mitt Romney is going to say at his conference. I am wondering if he has unearthed some kind of earth shaking dirt on Trump, or if he's going to announce that he's jumping in.

I never thought I would say that I would be glad to see Mitt Romney jump into this race.

And my only plan in the meantime is to begin stocking up on canned goods.

I find it interesting that Ben stein who is a pretty conservative economist, would vote for a democrat over Trump.

I'm curious about Romney's speech as well. He said it won't be a big announcement, but who knows. I just think it is kind of sad that the GOP's hail mary pass to stop Trump is Mitt Romney. They couldn't find someone more credible to republicans? Most that I know see Romney as a joke.

Just an FYI -

The delegates ANY candidate wins are not beholden to actually VOTE for that candidate t the convention.

No law holds them.

Not even moral code holds them.

So EVEN if a candidate wins enough delegates for the nomination it COULD happen that that they nominate someone else. I don't think it has ever happened, but it COULD.

The delegates are chosen because they are loyal.

I was under the impression that the delegates do have to vote for whoever they are pledged to in the first round of voting at the convention. After that, they can vote for whoever they want.

Complicated.this is interesting.

To put it simply, bound delegates are "bound" by their state's choice in the primary or caucus process when the nominating convention rolls around. In other words, if a bound delegate is assigned to Donald Trump in one of the upcoming Super Tuesday primaries, that delegate will have to support Trump at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, this July. Pledged or unbound delegates, on the other hand, are only loosely committed to their state's preferences, though they often do tend to stick with those preferences. The Democratic primary process does not have bound delegates, but they make all the difference on the Republican side, where more than 95 percent of delegates are bound to their state's choices.
