Saturday nights are 160+ at basic catering halls. I've recieved quotes for up to 1k per person.
Not according to the data.
I had 6 people that were in the $175+ category. I had 3 in the $160.
Everyone else was about $75 to $130.
YOU might be looking at places like that. but that's not what the ladies on here experienced.
Interesting.
ETA. I just saw your post about WHERE you are looking. Those are uber high end wedding venues.
I think the data is a little outdated. There are people who responded who have been married for 10+ years. Even prices from 5 years ago are probably not accurate for today. I have heard that where I had my wedding is now upwards of $200/head but when I booked it was a relatively new catering hall so the prices were much more reasonable.
100% fair.
I guess I should have said this is the average of how much people paid over the past 10 years.
This is completely unscientific :)

what if you tried those same places in an off month? Are you flexible on date?

I totally buy this.. I got married 7 years ago and prices were close to that for many mid-higher level places on Long Island for a Saturday night during the peak months.
Granted everything is negotiable but that is where many places start on a sat night and for sure luvbuffet has listed prices for some super high end places but those numbers are way more than 160 anyway!!
And Luvbuffet, I want to totally know what you do and if you can get me a job if you can afford 1000k a plate for your wedding. Jeez louise I am in the wrong business!
Congrats on your upcoming nuptuals btw

Lol afford 1k a plate? I don't think I like anyone enough to spend that much on a meal. Fk that! I was simply exploring options. we want to book a place that is best for us and we won't know until we do a ton of research. I don't want anything fancy. Decent food and great service is all we want.

May to October Saturday night is easily over $150++ at your typical place. Those were the quotes we got back in 2013. Exactly why we chose February lol. We looked at: North Ritz, Woodlands, Bridgeview, Sandcastle all over $150++ some almost $200++ (for 175 guarantee).. Venetian Yatch Club and Crest Hallow were slightly cheaper. Maybe because they host more than one event.

If you are looking for a place with good food and service, have you thought about a restaurant instead of a typical catering hall type venue? I'm not sure how many people you are having but friends of ours had their wedding at Delmonico's in downtown Manhattan, the focus was definitely on the food and service!
Also, outside of the city, in Hastings-on-Hudson, is Harvest on Hudson. I've never been for a wedding, but their food is amazing and since it isn't a typical catering hall, I feel like it might be more service-oriented!
GL!!
