Re: getting older and baby... spinoff SURROGATE
I think I would be a surrogate for someone- in fact if I wasn't too old, I would seriously look into it. I actually enjoyed being pregnant. Although thinking about it now, I did not enjoy the C-sections (two breech babies and my guess is that's just how any other babies would have been since even when we tried to turn the second, as soon as he was head down, he turned right back.) I don't know if I could offer to use my own egg. My best friend was unable to conceive a second time and she really wanted a second child (after all the testing and stuff, the doctors told her how amazing it was that she was able to have the first one.) She never asked and I don't know that she ever would have, but I may have considered donating an egg for her.

getting older and baby... spinoff SURROGATE
i would if I enjoyed my own pregnancy. I had complications and was soooo sick. So its hard enough for me to do it on my own but if I had easy pregnancies I would definitely consider it. I would also consider egg donation if my eggs were of good quality...they are not so that decision was made for me.

Egg donation I wouldn't even consider. Not for a second. I feel like that's harder than just being a surrogate. That baby would be half of me genetically. I couldn't really handle the idea of a child that is mine, biologically mine, walking around and not being raised by me. That's a tough one. I give credit to anyone who can do that, it can't be an easy decision.

I'd like to think I would do it if someone in my family or one of my close friends needed one.

Egg donation I could not do. To me that would be my child. Surrogate with someone else's egg and speed I would happily use my body as an incubator.

I would do it for my sisters in a heartbeat. One is done having babies but the other is much younger than I am and hopefully getting married soon lol I would be honored to carry her baby for her.

I couldn't personally carry a baby and give the baby away even if it was not "mine".

I agree...in theory I think it's one of the most incredible gifts you can give someone but the unknown emotional attachment terrifies me. Of course I am sure 99.9% of women go into it with the best intentions to hand over the baby at the end but the "what if" is impossible to predict - how do you not bond or become attached? I applaud every single woman that is selfless and strong enough to be a surrogate - I am just not sure I am.

I don't think I could do it. If I did it for anyone, it would be my brother and his wife. But I cant say for sure that I could...

I've already told my cousin who I'm close to, as well as my oldest friend that if they ever needed me to carry their baby, I would. They are the only two people I'd do it for.

Re: getting older and baby... spinoff SURROGATE
My girlfriend just finished being a surrogate in CT.
Her announcement on FB was "There is a bun in the over, but its not my bun".
I'm not sure its something I could have ever done, but I'm glad there are some people who do.

I am not a fan of being pregnant and I have had 2 c-sections both of which had tough recoveries. That being said I think I would be a surrogate but I would only do it with their egg and sperm. I could not give away something that was half mine genetically.

Re: getting older and baby... spinoff SURROGATE
I was a surrogate for DH's sister.
My niece/god daughter is 5 1/2 years old now.
I don't regret it one bit, but I am done with having kids - for me or anyone else ;o)
I'm 41 and have had 3 c-sections, my body is done carrying babies.

Wow. How generous and selfless of you, that is so great.
To answer the OP, I would do it for my sister but not for a stranger

13 years ago, I offered to my sister. She had my niece but then had trouble. She and BIL decided one was ok for them - but I would have done it for them in a heartbeat.

getting older and baby... spinoff SURROGATE
As an aside, there is a very controversial legal case occurring right now where a man hired a surrogate to carry 1-2 babies depending on implantation (donor eggs, his sperm) and the surrogate has ended up with triplets. The father wants her terminate 1 baby, she does not, and therein lies the dilemma. She has no legal claim to the child, but should she be forced to have a abortion she believes is immoral? The father claims he is exhausting his financial resources as it is and cannot care for 3 babies (he is apparently hearing-disabled and middle-aged), as is the surrogate.
The surrogacy industry seems to allow for many gray areas and apparently the vetting processes leave much to be desired.
I am hopeful for a positive outcome in this case.

I would for a family member. I don't know if I would be a good candidate because I had 2 rough pregnancies.

Re: getting older and baby... spinoff SURROGATE
no. i admire anyone who could, but I couldn't. Main reason would be that i would not be able to deal with the guilt if any complications were to arise with the pregnancy/baby. It's bad enough when its your own child, but to have it happen when carrying someone elses would double the pain/guilt and i just would not want to take that chance.
