Invite to bridal shower, but not wedding

Well does the bride even know she is having a shower. Usually the MOB or the Bridesmaids throw the shower not the bride.

Shower is 3 weeks away. Wedding is 5 weeks away. I know I'm not invited to wedding- I've talked to the bride about it. I didn't think she was going to have a shower because she's not really having a wedding- guess I was wrong.

Then the shower is a gift grab, in really bad taste.

I think that is ridiculously rude. You can come shower me with gifts FOR my wedding, but we don't prioritize you actually being there AT the wedding?! No. Incredibly rude. I'm surprised some PPs suggested declining but sending a gift. Sorry, I would not go and I would not be sending a gift.

What do you mean she's not having a wedding? You mean they are just going to city hall and not having a reception? If that's the case, then no one is really invited to the wedding right? If so, then I don't think this is that bad. Mentioning the no wedding part in the original post would have made a difference in a lot of responses, IMO.

If she was actually having a wedding and didn't invite you to that but invited you to the shower, then it's weird.

What if they're planning on justice of the peace (which I think is te case, OR they're doing something tiny with just immediate family)?

Still considered a breach of etiquette. Anyone invited to wedding related events needs to be invited to shower. It looks like a gift grab otherwise.

For the record, I agree. But, I might need something from this person soon, so I will probably attend. Just making sure I wasn't crazy for thinking this was horrible etiquette. AND- the invite was addressed to my maiden name (ive been married for 5 years).

I think it's weird, but I'm curious- what are you going to need from her?

Very odd, it's common to be invited to wedding and not shower, like if your friends w the groom but don't know bride but shower and no wedding?! No thanks
