Re: Very interesting..
That's one person . Statistics show other results. He's also a National Guard member, so not sure if that could have helped as well.
All lives matter and blue lives matter is just taking away from #BLM. It's like if your house is on fire and you call the fire department and they get all the houses in the neighbourhood, because, you know, all houses matter. Racism is a problem in the US- the "burning house". It needs attention.
This story is Fox News worthy. It's probably on Fox News.

Re: Very interesting..
Seems like a smart guy, but the concern is the population carrying concealed weapons. The officers have to be on guard and assume everyone is carrying. Sometimes in an effort of self preservation, things go very wrong. Guns are in the wrong hands , and I can't imagine being an officer this day and age. It's awful.
Noticing a lot of cops being shot recently. We can't live in a lawless society, what will happen to the common every day citizen of cops stand down out of fear?

It doesn't mean that there aren't serious issues but it is still nice to know that a situation which could have potentially gone wrong ended with a positive outcome. People need to start seeing that there is just as much good in this world as there is negative.
Everybody on this earth matters.....no one is more important then someone else. Everyone is someone else's child, spouse, sibling, etc. Quite frankly I think all this Black lives matter, blue lives matter, etc is a bunch of ********. People need to start being civilized humans that care about more then just themselves.

You don't get to hear these stories as much because they don't make headlines which in turn, don't make $$
From my experience (on either side of the law) if you are respectful, you get it in return. If you are combative from the get go, you are suspect and are treated as such.

Very interesting..
BLM isn't saying that white lives don't matter… Or that cops don't matter… so many people just automatically get so turned off by black lives matter that they're not even examining what it actually means
Remember back in the day when they were feminists fighting to have women get the right to vote ? You know how we're still currently fighting to get equal pay as women in the workplace ? And why is that? It's because women matter. I bet any amount of money if women right now stood up and had a campaign called "women matter" to fight for equal treatment - no one would say boo, except for misogynistic white men. Saying something matters is just drawing attention to the need that it needs to become equal. That's it.
If you're good solid cop… Black lives matter should not be something that you're fighting. It should be something that you support. The only people that should worry about black lives matter are racists and unjust cops who abuse their power and authority, iMo. If you go to the BLM website it's all spelled out. There's no anti cop smearing or promotion of violence. Are some people in there doing bad shit? Yes - just like in anything.
Jmo of course.
And yes many people have perfectly respectful dealings with cops. And yes many cops are good… Many of us have law-enforcement in our families.

Can someone post the SNL skit called "the day Beyoncé turned black"? It's genius and would tie in to the debate about the super bowl. I'm on my mobile and unable to do it.

Very interesting..
One last thing (because I have to run for a bit) I don't think anyone need to debate anything here but we can have an open and honest discussion and maybe get some good out of it.
And honestly… In my experience at least… And I can only speak for myself.. But I think that any black people that you know… Friends, neighbors, family, coworkers, anyone .. Chances are, they all support black lives matter. That's been my experience. They might not share this out loud to you ..And they're probably all great people who you like and enjoy .. But this is how they feel. Black lives matter is more than just about the cop angle. It's a uniting force for them and for their allies. I love people. They hurt over this stuff. It breaks my heart… When I see people I know who are black hurting over these things in today's world. And then you read the things online… And the comments people have and leave on Facebook… Things are just so disgustingly racist… It's almost like racism is worse than ever. And I think of the people I love and respect and care for. And I can't fully understand it, because I'm white. But I can't tell you how much it bothers me that they still have to deal with this. Or that white people are so dismissive of their movement. All I can try to understand as much as I can and be a supporter. I can do what I can. I really encourage people to look at what they stand for Not everyone will agree… Because there's a quite liberal angle to some of it. But it's important to get a sense of what it is and isn't.
But if you have any friends who are black, coworkers, neighbors, anyone in your life that you respect and love - it's so imperative to not diminish or dismiss BLM.

OK then. The lives aren't lived equally and opportunities aren't the same. And don't give the old "they need to pick themselves up by the bootstraps" response. This goes way beyond that-- sorry that you can't see that.

No thesis from me, those days are over. :) I agree with you that all lives matter. No one can debate that (that I can imagine!) but if one segment of the population is having inequality issues (still! In this day and age!) we need to get out a spotlight and help raise them up. Internally and externally. That's all. It's me being white standing with a friend who is black and reminding people that she matters. That she deserves the same treatment. Just like anyone else. hope that makes sense. Because so often we like to think racism isn't "as bad as it used to be" but that's not good enough. That's not acceptable. For you or me or the youth of America or the future generations.

And I get that. I really do. Though I think in that - we are saying we are different. But if I stood there with my black friend, my gay friends , my Puerto Rican friends , my adopted friends , etc and we said Our Lives Matter. All Lives matter. We are the same. That brings everyone together. Saying black lives matter, cops matter, etc etc keeps the divide. BUT ALL LIVES MATTER bring us together as humans
Now that may just be my opinion. And I know how everyone here loves opinions. But it is.

So well said! It's a movement and drawing attention to something that needs fixing. I don't think people who say "All Lives Matter" get HOW offensive they sound.
Probably gonna regret even replying but I cannot see how ALL LIVES MATTER is offensive to anyone. You and everyone else who continue to fill these threads with your views - cannot change the fact that I believe that our lives are equal. And please don't try to give me a college course reply. I'm not that interested in your fact checking response
Because so often we like to think racism isn't "as bad as it used to be" but that's good enough. That's not acceptable. For you or me or the youth of America or the future generations.
"And because "black lives matter" does refer to the specific threats that activists feel law enforcement poses to black Americans, countering with "all lives matter" can sound like an attempt to deny that those racial disparities exist. No one disagrees that all lives ought to matter — but one of the difficulties with talking about race in America is that even when race ought not to matter, for many people, it does."

I think what is not being understood is that BLM and ALM mean two different things. One disparages the other.

I don't think you realize HOW dismissive and condescending your reply come off.
That's exactly what "all lives matters" sounds like.
Yes.

BLM isn't saying that white lives don't matter… Or that cops don't matter… so many people just automatically get so turned off by black lives matter that they're not even examining what it actually means

But it is.
And I can totally see that perspective. And that's a good issue that you raise. It's def worth thinking about.
