What do you collect?

My husband started giving my daughter Disney statues (mostly Mickey) every Valentine's Day. Well... I accidentally broke them. I would like to help him come up with something else to start giving. Any ideas? $50-$75 max.

I collect unique and different teapots. Though if your DD is young, that may not be a good idea for her.

Re: What do you collect?

Piece of advice, make sure it's something useful. My mother in law passed away leaving hundreds of Swarovski crystal figurines to be split amongst her kids. We each now have 60+ and no where to put them and none of us really like them!

Maybe he could get her a bracelet that she can add a charm to each year?

Re: What do you collect?

Maybe a charm bracelet or some sort of jewelry. I think pandora charms are between $20-$50 each and they have resale value and can be worn throughout life, because I agree that a lot of "collectibles" just sit around collecting dust (or getting broken) and it seems like a waste of money to me.

Shotglasses. I have over 100 from all different cities and countries. My best friend is a diplomat and he's helped my collection along the way with all of the countries he's visited. :)

Umm.. Might not be appropriate for your daughter though! Lol.

Re: What do you collect?

Small watercolor prints of places I've travelled in the Carribbean. I have them framed and hung in our BR and also bathroom. DH collects shot glasses from our travels.

We inherited some of MIL's massive salt & pepper shaker collection. Some I have on display some are boxed in my attic, the rest are in FIL's hoarder apartment.

For your daughter, I agree about a charm bracelet.

Re: What do you collect?

Books, records and Christmas ornaments from places I've travelled.

Been collecting books and records since I was a kid. Who knew how trendy vinyl would be nowadays? My collection is on point, from The Chipmunks Punk (I thought it was so cool to hear The Chipmunks play Blondie and Queen haha...actually it is pretty cool) to stuff I buy today.

Books...been collecting them my whole life. Our computer room has all my books on one side and all my vinyl on another. I'm surprised the floor doesn't cave in from the weight.

If she's a reader, then maybe some great books? The charm bracelet idea is cute too...as she gets older, you could get a larger bracelet.

I don't like clutter, stuff, knick knacks and dust collectors but the last few years I have been collecting beach glass.

Limoges boxes are cute for a little girl. Perfect for storing tiny treasures. They come in all sorts of shapes. I still have a few my mom gave me when I was younger.

Re: What do you collect?

When I was a kid, I was horse obsessed. I rode every weekend, went to camp in the summer, everything. I collected Breyer horse statue figurines. Some were toys but the nicer ones were collectible (and breakable!). Is there something like that she really loves?

Otherwise, I really love the charm bracelet idea. They have such cute personal charms for these now.

i hate "stuff"- i love penguins which makes my family think i want anything & everything with a penguin on it, which is the furthest from the truth haha

The only thing we really collect is christmas ornaments from where we have traveled. We started this when we were dating and still do it. I love looking back on them when we decorate the tree

Turtles - I always get some sort of turtle figurine from where ever I go on vacation. I keep them in my office - that way no clutter at home and I can think about vacations while sitting at my desk

Re: What do you collect?

I'd do some type of charm bracelet -
Even if "pandora" isn't a thing in 5 or 10 years ..........charm bracelets have been a 'thing' forever, and you'll always be able to add/find charms to a basic bracelet. -

AND - its not something she'll have to pack up and store away somewhere - it's something she can wear every day if she wants to ......

Re: What do you collect?

I have a collection of rocks and minerals that I collected as a child. They all now sit inside of a large glass bowl. I don't add to the collection anymore, but I do enjoy looking at them. I have about 40 different kinds of stones and together they look really nice. My mom kept getting me royal doulton bunnykins, so I have them in my home, but I would not really have purchased them for myself. I have not really started any collections for my kids. But we do get a magnet from where we travel, so that is a family collection.
