Spinoff to Barbie Doll Post (Warning - sad and difficult to watch post)

Warning - this is very hard to watch.....

I didn't want to post on the other thread because it was already getting heated. However, I am on the side of those who think we should have more representative toys. These "ideals" get embedded into young brains. It's so upsetting that these little children see one race as better than another.
Parenting does matter of course, but do you think these parents were telling their kids that others were better? Society has a HUGE impact on them.

We need to have toys that represent everyone and not just an ideal and we need to have a diverse group of toys. I think this video is a great example of how kids are so influenced by society.

If you want to go back to how things were in the 50s - that's your idea of good times and think this new generation isn't "tough" - more power to you. I don't think i'm coddling my kids. I hope things keep changing...starting with different Barbies.

I for one like the advances we are making.

A societal shift is what's happening, and I'm grateful for it.

Idk I think race is different from body images when comparing the targeted demographics for dolls. As a child I can see not relating to a blue eyed blonde hair doll but the body image was far from my mind.

At age 6 I knew that this was an adult doll that can be married to a ken doll.. So to me she was an adult and didn't expect her to have my body type. However color and race is a whole separate issues and depicts the times that were happening during these videos.i don't think comparing body images and media of today is the same as comparing race issues from the 80s.
