RANT of the day! Cell phones while walking!!!! ETA - An addition.
Dear Everyone in the city of New York,
Get. Off. Your. Damn. Cell. Phone. While. You. Are. Walking.
OR:
Getting on the train
Getting off the train
Walking up stairs
Walking down the stairs
Crossing the street
Walking down ANY "tunnel" un the subway.
Walking in the middle of the sidewalk
Getting on/off the elevator
Seriously. There is NOTHING more important than your life. So reading email or texting while you cross the street is dumb. Or better yet, while you are walking THEN crossing the street. These people don't pay attention and often (I SEE IT) cross against the light thinking they have the light.
And you walk damn slow and don't pay attention when you are looking at your PHONE and NOT where you are walking!!!!!!!
Not to mention you can be mugged (or worse) because YOU are not paying attention to anything around you.
Rant over.

Just had to add this in there:
For FCUKS sake...
Stand on the right and walk on the g-d damn left!!!!!!!!!

Agreed - HUGE pet peeve.
Add to it the people who insist on texting/reading while they're walking up or down the stairs ......

I actually yelled at someone coming off the shuttle this am for this. I normally only take the subway in the bad weather but with all the snow I have been taking it all week. Its making me angry!!!!

A few months ago I was leaving for work, and turned at my corner onto another road in the neighborhood. Luckily I was driving slowly as I had just turned left onto this street because a teenager walked out of her house, down her driveway and right into the street to go wait for the bus on the other side, all the while with her head down in her cell phone.
Didn't stop, didn't look both ways, nothing.
Just walking with head down into the road.
If someone had been speeding or closer to where she entered the street she would have gotten hit.
I really don't get it

YES!!!! I have actually missed subways because multiple people are slowly walking down the subway steps while looking at their phone.

Exactly. The driver will be traumatized & then sued all because these people don't feel the need to take responsibility for themselves.

if i spot someone on their phone walking towards me that is CLEARLY going to crash into me if i dont move out of the way, i just stand there and give them the death stare until i block them . when they look up and see the eyes of death staring back at them they get startled. its the most satisfying .3 seconds EVER. then i shake my head and call them an ahole.

This JUST happened to me on the staircase AT GRAND CENTRAL at the 5 train!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Moron literally stopped in front of me as i'm descending behind him so I dodge him, bump him intentionally and yelled "REALLY?!???????!!!!!"
Maybe we need to organize a cell-douche shaming club

And for God's sake.....move to the right on the escalator if you feel you must check your phone! Aside from the fact that running down the escalator is the closest I get to exercising - I also would like to make the earliest possible subway and HATE walking up to one with its doors closing in my face.....

I walk and talk in NYC! It is my ONLY time to make personal calls! I don't run into people or anything of the sort! I do not chat while at work and my nightly routine with my 3 kids doesn't allow for chit chat! :)
