Has anyone set up a go fund me page for a colleague? Is it something appropriate to do or is it something a close family or friend should set up?

Someone I work with got in a serious accident and will need to move to handicap accessible place if/when they get out of the hospital. No one at my office seems to be doing anything for him, and I thought a go fund me page may help. But since I really am not friendly with him, or know much about him I wasnt sure if it would be appropriate to set it up, or to suggest it to others that are closer with him, or if it is something his family should decide to do (or not do)

In that case... Family.
But in most cases... Family.

A friend of ours (me & DH) had a terminal illness and another friend set up a GoFundMe page. Our sick friend and his wife were not too thrilled about it, to say the least. I think it's a very thoughtful of you, but I think in your case it is something his family should do. If possible, maybe you can contact his family about doing it.

IN our office sometimes they would send an email out, anyone want to join the collection see receptionist, then they would go out and get giftcards for food places nearby the person and send a card with all the names that put in.

Go fund me I feel like it should be an immediate relative. Like spouse or if not married then sibling or parent.

Do you know they need money? Dh and I aren't wealthy but I would die if someone started a gofundme for us for anything. We have enough and our families would help with some type of emergency. How about putting together something else? Restaurant gift cards in some kind of basket?

If I were you I would think about possibly checking with people at work to see if they would like to start a collection. You could always contact that person's family to see if they already started one and ask them for the details so you could donate.

In this case, I would take up a collection from colleagues to buy flowers, or a gift basket.

A gofundme is sort of asking the world for contributions to provide needed financial assistance.

I agree. When I had cancer, I would have hated it if someone did this. We were not in financial hardship, fortunately, b/c everything was covered by insurance with normal copays, and I didn't miss too much work, so I was paid the entire time, and I didn't have to travel OOS or anything & my husband was working also.

My boss sent flowers form the company & a personal gift of surgery recovery items.(DVDs, a book, funny slipper socks)
