What emergency supplies do you have in your home?
I'm starting to put together a list of things I want to have in the event we lose power for days or have to evacuate. Please share ideas.

I have candles, a flashlight, some extra batteries. I have some canned foods but not specifically for an emergency just because we rarely eat them.

We have flashlights, batteries, candles and a BBQ lighter. A big thing for me is I need to have a secret stash of cash in the house. During the blackout I had absolutely no money on me and it was kind of a scary situation.
Other things to consider are bottled water, canned foods and a battery operated radio.

Re: What emergency supplies do you have in your home?
Most of all of the above. Sandy survivor here. Make sure all your important papers are in a secure dry place so if you need to grab it you have it all together.
Another thing is to get 'go bags' ready for all family members and pets! If you have pets make sure you have extra food. Put extra clothes in the bags in addition to food, water, medicine, flashlights, batteries.
I must admit since sandy im a little ptsd about this stuff and have been hoarding cans of tuna and bottled water.
We also have a hand crank radio with a cell phone charger port.

What emergency supplies do you have in your home?
Fully stocked First Aid Kit Meds for Allergies, infections and Fevers Bandages and gauze We always have dry foods and soups so that's never an issue Since I have gone camping with the Girl Scouts a few times we now have two sets of camp meal kits Fire Starters and supplies We keep a small bag of wood chips (doesn't take a lot of space) We also keep one empty storage bin. We do not fill it. Basically it's impossible to guess our Go pack other than food, meds and water.
Been through too many emergencies. Reality is, get out, get out quickly, safely. Everything else can be worked out. Don't waste time for anything that can't be at hand. Sure it's nice to have a go bag and be ready but not if a tornado is at your back door and that's where your bag is.. you just GO.
But we only deal with being locked in with ice. Given hahahaha that Jim spent most of his life in NY and I spent 10yrs there, we just laugh and to outside to play. We can't leave, can't drive, can't go to the store, can't travel but it's ok. It's like being snowed in without the snow.

And an important reminder.... review your supplies once in a while. It's great to stash away emergency supplies, but it's not so great to find out when you need them that the batteries are dead, the food is expired, and there was a leak in the water bottle, so it's now empty.

Yeah that's why we stopped keeping a actual go bag set aside. Stuff in it was useless. We picked Allergy meds as our cycle to check. I don't always buy allergy meds for us (not AJ) that often so when we need to buy more we restock our meds. Actually just tossed out a box of Pedialyte that we never used for AJ. When I do a GS outing I have to double check the first aid kit anyway. But since she and I are clutzy we check that kit about once every two months.
When we eat a soup, we put a can back on the grocery list even if we have two more cans. Our dry goods are things we EAT regularly not things we keep aside for emergencies. That way we SEE them and rotate them more often and keep them fresh. If you don't want to eat your emergency rations now, you won't want to then either! LOL

Flashlights, batteries, candles always on hand. If there is an impending severe storm, I buy new food supplies and pack bags for us and the cat. Our important documents are in my filing cabinet in double ziploc bags to keep them dry.

Word. Me too. I used to keep some stuff stocked but the reality is, I live in a part of Queens where literally down the block from my house are two bodegas, a supermarket, two pharmacies, two hardware stores, a liquor store and some roti shops.
Outside of a zombie apocalypse, I don't have to worry. Everything is a one-minute walk away.
Potato curry? Whiskey? Flashlights? Candles? Birth control? Egg and cheese on a roll? I can buy all this shit within ten minutes and be back in my pajamas watching the world explode on the telly.
