Quick help please! To give a gift or not?
My stepson was invited to go to see a Broadway show tomorrow with a friends family. His friends younger sister had her bat mitzvah today and instead of having a party she is bringing several friends to see the show and dinner. My SS was invited to keep his friend (the older brother) company. So should my SS give a bat mitzvah gift? (We are friendly with the family but not very close)

Are they paying for the show and dinner for him? If yes, then I would absolutely bring a gift. Probably would do a gift card. I think it would be rude to show up to what is meant as her party - when they are footing such a $$$ bill - with nothing. I would definitely bring a gift or gift card.

Thanks everyone. I went and got a card and wrote a check. I just kind of forgot that they were going for the girl's bat mitzvah and while we were sitting at dinner, it just kind of hit me, that "Oh, he should probably bring a gift" and then I started doubting myself, if that was the right thing - which I guess it's always better to er on the side of giving rather than not. Thanks!
