Cash register recipts have HIGH concentration of BPA!!
I. Am. Shocked.
The article says that if you use lotion or hand sanitizer BEFORE handling the receipts you can have a spike in your BPA levels in your body.

Re: Cash register recipts have HIGH concentration of BPA!!
every time I take my Dd food shopping, to the post office, or to costco (which is like almost every day) the cashiers always hand dd the receipt to make her feel special and she clings to it the whole way home. I had no idea that could be bad for her.

Cash register recipts have HIGH concentration of BPA!!
The main thing to look at (I do a LOT of asbestos litigation) is the exposure. How much is too much? Its about the exposure.
And in NO WAY am I making controversy, but its the same thing with vaccinations. The exposure is so small of whatever ingredient is in there, can that super small dose cause...anything? (again, I am just giving an example, not discussing the pros or cons of vaccination)
I just did a "university of Google" search and came up with this. I have to say that canned veggies for me is a staple (easy). I might be changing. Its ALL just too damn much.
Just like Subway was using plastic something or other as a way to keep the bread fresh.

Can linings are starting to be made BPA free. I've noticed this more and more lately.

Everything is bad for you- I come to this conclusion. No reason to lose sleep over it. The milk cartons are bad. Cans are bad. Styrofoam cups can kill you. Take out food in plastic will kill you. Pretty much, it is EVERYTHING.

Re: Cash register recipts have HIGH concentration of BPA!!
I really hate to be the one to criticize the snarky comments (especially since I usually love them) but I think there should be more awareness when it comes to things like this. There are so many little things we are exposed to every single day and it adds up over the course of decades. People over 50 have the highest incidence of new cancer diagnoses and part of that reason is because they have been exposed to tiny amounts of chemicals for way too long.
I know it's all about limiting your exposure but when just about everything you touch has the potential to be toxic in large enough amounts... there is something wrong. I know 5 people going through chemo right now. These are my family and friends. I know countless others that have already been through it or didn't make it. It's scary to think one day it could be me or my baby or my husband.
BPA is known to cause cancer. I don't think anyone here should be making light of it no matter how small the exposure.

I used to think this way until I had my son. Now, I take as many steps as I can to limit my family's exposure. I definitely try not to handle register receipts. We don't use plastics unless necessary. I buy fresh organic local produce when possible. Organic frozen is my next choice. I'm selective about the meat I buy (grass fed organic if possible). We try not to eat processed foods. You will rarely see anything canned in my house. I almost never use the microwave (don't even know why we still have one). I don't use chemical cleaners or pesticides unless I have to. It's not even inconvenient... it becomes normal. I just do the best I can and if I have to use something with chemicals, I don't lose sleep about it.
It started with small steps, using up the potentially harmful products in my house and just not re-buying them. If nothing else, I'm at least helping the environment. If I'm making my family a tiny bit healthier, then I'm happy. I refuse to throw caution to wind and say "f*ck it" when it comes to my family and our health.
OP - sorry to hijack your post with my rants. I appreciate you posting this and making other people aware of the danger.

Re: Cash register recipts have HIGH concentration of BPA!!
FYI: banned in suffolk county
Suffolk County, New York became the first government entity in the nation to ban Bisphenol-A from cash register receipts. The decision by the Suffolk County Legislature defies the findings of government health and science bodies around the world.
The Suffolk County Legislature voted 16-1 to approve the Safer Sales Slip Act. On January 3, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone signed the act into law.
Clean Bill of Health
Bisphenol-A (BPA) is used to strengthen food and drink containers, seal food can liners, and produce thermal paper receipts. Anti-chemical activists claim BPA can threaten human health if people consume it. The world’s major government health and science bodies, such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the European Food Safety Authority, Health Canada, and Food Standards Australia New Zealand, have all found BPA safe for humans in current usage.
Gilbert Ross, medical and executive director at the American Council on Science and Health, says the many studies showing the safety of BPA render attempts to ban or restrict the chemical scientifically unjustified.
"The scientifically baseless, politically motivated ban on its use in thermal cash-register receipts is inane and a waste of resources, intellectual and financial, and will serve to benefit only those hypocritical officials trying to exploit the public's fear of chemicals,” said Ross.
Dr. John Dale Dunn, an emergency room physician at Fort Hood, Texas, agrees BPA fears are not based on credible science.
“There is absolutely nothing to the asserted concern and scare about BPA,” Dunn said. “BPA has been studied extensively in America and Europe. It has long been a commonly used component in plastics, and there have been no negative effects.”
Political Alarmism
The Safe Sales Slip Act follows a 2009 county law banning the sale of baby products containing BPA. Legislator Tom Cilmi (R-East Islip) was the only Suffolk County legislator to vote against the Safe Sales Slip Act.
The most common allegation anti-chemical activists make against BPA is that it is an endocrine disruptor. Dunn says he has thoroughly studied the published research on BPA and the assertions are nonsense because there is no conclusive scientific evidence for them.
“The whole business of BPA and endocrine disruption is a scandal,” said Dunn.
“There is a reason why government health agencies around the world have given BPA a clean bill of health after extensive study,” Dunn said. “The reason is exposure to trace amounts of the chemical has no negative consequences on human health.”
