This is something everyone should know.

When was the last time you checked your credit report? See what was on there?

My credit score is 811. I got that up from 620 when I was younger.

Spinoff. What is your FICO score?

Used to be 801. But for some reason now it is 765. DH's is over 800 so either way, we are good!

Spinoff. What is your FICO score?

both dh and I are 850, hoping when we buy a house early next year that our credit scores and report help with interest rates.

Spinoff. What is your FICO score?

815. And the commentary says the fact that I have no loans or mortgage lowers it because I'm not proving that I pay back debt. Who knew being debt free was bad! lol

Re: Spinoff. What is your FICO score?

Ours both have always been in the 700's and we have gotten a mortgage, car loans etc. for the lowest rate.

Spinoff. What is your FICO score?

805 or something. Last checked a bit over a year ago when I leased a car - could have changed since then but probably not by much bc not much has changed with my financial situation.

765, says credit history is short (I don't think it is) and I don't have enough accounts open (I think I do). How many cards /accounts do I need? In any case, we always get the lowest rate

Spinoff. What is your FICO score?

803. I'm curious how to get it higher---I don't have much debt (no mortgage, no car, etc. ) so I guess that hurts me?

Last time I applied for something it was somewhere around 750ish. It fluctuates.

To be honest, I see credit reports daily at work and rarely do people have over an 800 score. The score you get on your credit card statement, or that you get when you pay for your report is not the same as it would be when applying for credit.

803 is great. But yes, not having any/much debt does "hurt" you. Also your length of credit cards, etc. So the older you get, keeping the same CCs, as long as you pay them off monthly helps. Things like that.

So far, mine has been extremely accurate. I only know because we applied for a mortgage. In fact, my credit card statement low-balled me. I was 30 points higher and absolutely delighted. Chat Icon

I actually looked into this-- the average age of my credit history is 16 years and I've never been late on a payment BUT apparently the number of credit inquiries I've had in the last few years have reduced my Credit Inquiries score from Excellent to Good. Very interesting!

Mine is accurate. When I bought my car the dealer said to me "I have been doing this for 20 years. I have never seen anyone with as good credit as you".

Not sure if anyone will know the answer, but does it hurt to check your own credit score often? Or just when other people check it? I like to check mine, but now wondering if I'm lowering my own score.

No. When you check your own credit score or report it's called a soft pull. That does not affect your score.

A hard pull affects your score. Hard pulls are usually done when you apply for credit.
