What's the going yearly salary would you say to hire an experienced worker? Long Island answering phones, customer service, office purchasing, and some data entry

35K
That sounds high. I've seen receptionist job postings for more like 28k and that's for someone with experience.

I'd say 30K-35K, more with experience. Also depends on industry.

Re: Salary for a receptionist
35K is too high. 25K is more in line. Usually they pay approximately $10-$12/hr. My lawfirm in NYC was paying $17/hr for a receptionist with experience.

Yeah $35k is high... It's usually an hourly position, starting around $12/hour, topping out (usually) around $17-18/hour.

Salary for a receptionist
We pay $32K to our receptionist. After she makes a year with us, we will increase her to $35k. We also give a $500 holiday bonus and two weeks paid vacation. We only contribute half towards health insurance (as a single).

I would think a receptionist position would be a starting point. Most move up to better paying jobs. Everyone can't be paid six figures and you need to start somewhere if you don't have an advanced degree.

I agree. I doubt a secretary is an end game, unless you have no education. But people need to start somewhere. Heck, I have a masters and I don't make that much more.

Bingo! I'm a practice manager, I don't make a TON more that that. I work my butt off, and the other day my DH engineer making more than 4x my salary tells me I need to get a "real job".... My mouth dropped. He has NO clue, lol.

Re: Salary for a receptionist
At my last job, I hired 2 receptionists. One earned $40k and the other earned $45k. This is in DC.
When I worked in Manhattan, the receptionist made $50k. The superstar admins earned $75-80k. They did more than answer phones though. They put together pitch books and helped out with presentations.

Secretary is very different than a receptionist and can be a pretty high paying job (relatively speaking)

I have an education and I am a secretary. And this will probably be my 'end game' as you call it.
I think that was incredibly rude, I work hard and make good money.

I kinda agree- that stung. I'm an administrative receptionist and I make as much as my contractor DH, this year- more with overtime. I'm educated and driven and work my ass off doing plenty more than just answering phones. Ultimately, admin. assistant is my goal and in my office, they make about $75- $80k. Nothing to sneeze at IMHO. Plus, the added benefit of it being a job I can *mostly* leave at the office at the end of the day.
ETA: For the OP- My starting salary was $35k 10 years ago, but I work in Manhattan for a very large company. I know that makes a world of difference. The field/responsibilities also make a huge impact on the pay.

We were talking about Receptionist salaries not secretaries. Two totally different jobs.
