This year they happen to say happy holidays. I usually pick based on the design, not necessarily what they say.
If I ever heard someone I sent a card to had an issue with it saying merry Christmas though, not only would I cross them off my list but I would also reevaluate my friendship with them.
I agree with this...I would never be offended if I received a Happy Hanukkah/Happy Kwaanza/etc. card. That seems absurd. It's a friend/neighbor thinking of you and wishing you well for the holiday season.

Merry Christmas as that is what I celebrate This. I wouldn't think twice if I received a card that referenced any other holiday, if that's what the person celebrated either.

I would never be offended by getting any type of holiday card. I would just enjoy that people thought of me.

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays cards?
I think what is getting lost here is that people are thinking of themselves (i.e. "I celebrate xmas") instead of thinking of the recipient.

Let's be honest, when I'm printing out my holiday cards I'm simply not breaking out who celebrates what and ordering all different types of cards. I've literally never met a person that even batted an eye over what type of card they received so how is this even a discussion anyway?

Because everything is a discussion / conversation.
Literally. Everything.
I agree w you. Printing out different batches of cards or changing my greeting to something generic isn't going to happen. For us, it's Christmas. So Merry Christmas it is

agree, as I said before, i love getting any card, as many know I love getting mail. But if someone knows I am Jewish and I get a very very Christmas type card, part me does think I was not thought of. I would still love the fact I was sent one but...I would not send them a Hanukkah card

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays cards?
I choose my cards based on the design I like. Some have said happy holidays and some have said merry christmas. I wouldn't think twice if I received any other type of card.

I am being honest. While the cards themselves may have pictures that candy canes, stockings, wreaths, etc, the cards themselves always say "Happy Holidays" because I have a few non-Christians on my list. Also, to me, the holiday season includes Christmas, New Years, Hanukkah etc.

100% agree. If I am sending out 80 picture cards, I have no time to sort through and figure out who celebrates what, and then order for that. The addresses alone take time. If you don't like my card, and what it has to say, rip it up and throw it away. It's the thought that counts.

I answered earlier but this thread is making me so happy that I'm lazy and don't send any cards with any sentiments to anyone.
I don't single anyone out, I snub em all.

Word. I think I sent out cards the first year or two after I was married because it was the thing to do... then I just stopped... for no other reason than sheer laziness and I just don't really care I can't even be bothered to decorate half the time.
To answer the question, no I would not care if I got a card that said Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Kwanzaa, Hannukah, Festivus or whatever other greeting.... they all end up in the garbage anyway.
Oh well! Bah humbug!

Re: Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays cards?
I always send holiday cards. We are catholic but my husband was in a historically Jewish fraternity in college and literally half of our good friends do not celebrate Christmas. While I do not think the vast majority would be offended, I choose to be inclusive and wish all happy holidays. It's no skin off my back :) that said, we receive a handful of Happy Hanukkah cards and I am always touched by anyone who thought to send us any card. I love seeing pics of everyone's kids getting older and getting holiday cards is one of the best parts of the season for me!

Re: Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays cards?
When I bought Christmas cards that I filled out, I always bought a separate box that were holiday neutral for my non-Christian friends.
Now that I do photo cards (since dd was born), I just pick something I like and send to everyone. 2 years it was Christmas, one year holiday neutral. I know my non-Christian friends well and I know they look for the photo on the card more than the message itself. I've also received Hanukkah cards and have not been offended.

Re: Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays cards?
I am jewish and love getting other peoples' merry xmas cards. It's their holiday and their fam pics! I never even thought twice! I also love getting hannukah cards. No one should send a card based on the holiday i celebrate!!! Its not like ill only be inviting jews to my kids' bar mitzvahs either!
ETA- the only time i consider the recipient is if it a gift- like a holiday card with a holiday gift inside for a mailman, teacher, therapist, etc. I wouldn't give a merry xmas card with a holiday bonus to a teacher if i knew he/she was jewish. ...but that's diff

We celebrate Christmas, so I send out Christmas cards. I always hand write " Happy Holidays, Love X * X" on each, so I have my bases covered.

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays cards?
It's just as easy to be inclusive as it is to be exclusive...We do a holiday card so everyone feels included. And I think it shows that I take their feelings into consideration.
