I believe that studies have not shown any relationship between crime rates and the refugees. It's said in the news, but it's not true.
Terrorism is everywhere. Let's (general us) not blame it on the Syrian refugees.

What's going on in Syria is horrible by itself. Seeing these poor people and what they're going through to flee is heartbreaking. Unfortunately though, terrorists seem to not be dumb people. They seem to have thought out "missions" and know how to carry through.
That being said, I would bet money that there are bad mixed in with the good and they will "sleep" until they are "needed". That, to me, is the scary part. There's no way of knowing who's who.

I've seen this in this thread a few times- "there is a huge foreign presence in Paris." I'm not sure what that means here. Every city has foreigners.
As for Syrian refugees, France has not taken in as many as they should. I also don't think not letting them in is the answer. I think some people really need to read up on the Syrian refugee crisis.
I'm not sure how I feel about the Schengen zone and open borders. The borders are open, but it is like travelling from state to state in the US. There are a lot of other controls in place, so it isn't like you can just wander into that country and stay there.
I think it's good to get your insight and perspective being that you're abroad! As far as the refugees - yeah, many of them are escaping the same people no one wants around. Many are innocent. But I would imagine (and maybe I'm wrong) that taking in people can also lead to the bad ones getting in. I'm not sure what the answer is. It's just very scary.
Veggies , you are not wrong. One of the attackers has a Syrian passport (BBC and Reuters). If you read online accounts , residents are saying it's a lot of younger men coming alone. It's not as many families as we believe. I've also read articles where crime against local women have increased and they are afraid. Time for people to stop being too PC and have better self preservation instincts.
I feel for the French people and I'm very concerned about us NY'ers as well.

I just got home and I'm able to catch up on cnn.
I'm so sick by this. It makes me not want to leave my house. You can't go anywhere without that fear. School. Movies. Mall. It's sickening.
I remember being in the mall with dd1 when she was a few months old and thinking if someone came in right now and started shooting where would I run to. I shouldn't be scouting escape routes at the mall.
May these victims RIP
It's so sad but I think the same thing all the time. What would I do if something happened? How would I get out? How would I protect my children?
It's a sick, sick world we live in where you have to fear walking into a supermarket or sending your child to school. Sure, there is still good in the world but I feel like sick, cold hearted, senseless acts like what happened in Paris overshadows any good and makes people, like myself, nervous to just live their lives happily. I do fear for the future of my children, it just seems like there is so much hatred and unrest in the world.
Those poor, poor victims...............may they R.I.P.

Over 120 dead in Paris attacks
It's sad and unfortunate. It is scary, absolutely. but I refuse to let that fear paralyze me. I remember feeling the same way after 9/11, scared to go back into NYC, but I was back as soon as I could get there. We can't let the terrorists win, and a win for them means hiding.

I totally agree but I'd be lying if I said it didn't give me pause sometimes.

Over 120 dead in Paris attacks
and people are out ragged about a damn red cup!!!! people need to wake up. This is our new normal, and after yesterday the thought of DH going to the city everyday for work freaks me out. its only a matter of time in till something big like this happens here again. We let these people do what ever they want. Obama came out yesterday morning and said that they are not growing and not a problem. umm hello!!! they have taken over cities in the middle east, growing by the minute. Did you know there are towns in paris that there is no one allowed in that is not muslim, and they are also here in the states. Right up state, in NY there is one!!! (islamberg) If anyone gets to close to their little village them come out with guns and all and make you go away. How is this ok???
Oh and i just read that one of these bombers was a refugee that was just bought in a few months ago. That wall is sounding really good right about now that Trump is talking about.
When is enough going to be enough. I hate to say it, but its only going to get worse before it gets better, in less our president gets his head out his ass and bombs the living the day lights out of these people. Its time to take back our country and protect our people!

A thousand times this. This country, this world, is seriously broken. I have been so depressed this weekend. I spoke to my 89 yr old grandmother earlier today and she said "I am glad I am at the end of my life because I can't imagine having to live another 50 years in this crap hole of a planet". I thought of my 4 babies, plus the newest one growing inside me, and I was actually mad at myself for bringing 5 innocent children into a world that is on the verge of disaster. Hoping I sleep better tonight than I did last night.

The "Muslim only" areas have been proven to be false. even Fox News issued an apology for this. http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/nogozones.asp
http://www.wnd.com/2015/01/local-police-speak-out-about-islamberg/
Tragedies like this bring out the best and worst of humanity. Surely we can rise above fear-driven paranoia and look toward real solutions, which may include reevaluating the process of taking in refugees.

Re: Over 120 dead in Paris attacks
Random violence like what happened in Paris is very scary. I read that the level of chatter did not indicate any plans which means ISIS has new ways to communicate- also scary.
But I don't see what voting for Trump will accomplish, sorry. We've had mass shootings-schools, malls, movie theaters- lots of them- and for the most part they've been carried out by Americans. Should we fear ISIS and their random violence coming here? Of course. But let's not pretend they are the only ones who pose a threat to us.
