first time dogsitting. any tips?
Im having my friends chi this weekend at my apt. First time im ever dog sitting. Any advice? I love dogs and have met her before. I hear that when dogs are brought to new territory they like to 'mark' regardless if theyve been walked frequently. True? Dh will flip his you know what if it happens

Some dogs mark, some dogs don't. I'd just keep an eye on him at first, maybe even section off the living room or kitchen area so he can't go wandering out of your eyesight.

Re: first time dogsitting. any tips?
A few things:
1. Ask these questions:
a. What time are meals. b. How much (quantity) is a meal c. where does the dog sleep at night? d. Do you allow the dog on the couch. e. Does he give you signs he wants to go out? (For us our dog scratches the door) f. How much can I "treat" him. What is appropriate, too much etc. g. Can I give him table food? (We never ever ever ever give table food and I would be very upset if someone did.) h. Favorite toy? I. Favorite game? (My dog is famous for running around the couch). J. What time does he NORMALLY go to sleep. This just gives you an idea if he might be cranky at a certain time. My guy just lays on the couch and crashes.
SUPER IMPORTANT: a. Behavior. does he have ANY commands? Sit? etc. b. Is there anything he likes to chew on? If you leave shoes out will he chew on all of them? Socks? c Just for you, dogs love women's underwear, Don't leave it on the floor.
Make sure: a. He gets NO chocolate b. He gets NO grapes c. He gets NO onions. d. you ask about his bowls. My guy HATES metal and shiny silver bowls. he freaks out. e. Bully sticks are bull penis. dogs LOVE that shit. It SMELLS like a$$. Just be prepared in case they give them to you.
This is a suggestion list. Frankly love him and feed him and it will all fall into place for the most part :)

yes was def thinking of sectioning off, even blocking the couch so she can't get up there. Thx!

Some of these questions come about because since you don't know, you don't want to "break" something the parents do.
For example. If the dog sleeps in your bed and he is NOT allowed in their bed, that night be a problem. OR YOU might feel like you DONT want the dog sleeping in your bed.
If they don't allow the dog on the couch, and you do it might cause them problems.
If you feed the dog scraps, or from the table etc etc and they don't, that could cause a problem.
But like I said, ultimately, love him, feed him, walk him. It will all fall into place :)

Re: first time dogsitting. any tips?
I just did this a few weeks ago. I just follow the routine my brother gave me. I was kind of scared of the dog at 1st but she warmed up to me. I did it at the dog house . They didn't give me a problem. I just didn't let them on the bed were I was sleeping. I let them them out a few times a day. Gave them water. It was a good experience. Since you know the dog you probably won't have any problems.

Nice to hear a good experience. This little chi is very friendly and I don't think she has any behavior issues so it should be all good.
