Re: Just an FYI..

I knew this. I got pulled over in 1995 for driving with headphones on (my radio was broken ).
Yep I remember way back when, when people would wear the big headphones on in their cars. I never got how they could hear what was going on around them and how they could be a huge distraction. I don't think this is anything new and I just think common sense has gone out the window with the generations getting younger and younger. Sorry but book smarts are overruling common sense.

A map to show you where it is illegal to wear headphones....Some states you can't even wear one.

Just an FYI..
I don't like seeing people with them in. I always thought it was a law.
I hate loud music too but I think it's different. There's something about earphones where you're zoned into whatever you're listening to and not being able to pay attention fully to what's around you.
Even chatting can be distracting. Sometimes my little one will want to talk a LOT in the car and I have to tell him that maybe we can talk about things later because I have to concentrate
It sucks that he got a ticket but at least now he knows. Expensive lessons are never fun.

I just asked my boyfriend and he said they have been trying to do little like, "stops" here and there to let the public know about this because so many people aren't aware of this law but now it is so common for people to be driving with hands-free earbuds in so they want people to know that it's fine, just don't have both. BUT he did say, that in making the public aware every single officer he knows are mostly issuing warnings and kind of doing an "FYI" type of thing when they stop people or notice it --- not actually writing them!
He's like, that guy's name wasn't Jimmy, was it?? LOL! (inside joke about a cop we know) and I said, I'm not sure but I will ask
Can you your BF is there is a bass level law? And no, I am not kidding.
I was stuck in bumper to bumper (dead stop) traffic last week on the LIE service road. An SUV next to me had windows partially down and the loudest, pumping bass I have ever heard. My own SUV was rumbling and I had to cover my ears (which still didn't help). It was beyond obnoxious.

I thought this was common knowledge. Guess not.
Yeah this seems like common sense.

Re: Just an FYI..
Sure!
He said it is illegal and a police officer can issue a summons (ticket) for it. It is a fine only, not points, but it is considered a noise disturbance.

I assume you are referring to the bass level question above. That seems extra dangerous, b/c not only can you not hear, the people around you can only hear your music & not anything else around them.

Re: Just an FYI..
Wow. I kinda assumed deaf people weren't allowed to drive. It seems unsafe that they can't hear sirens, horns, etc.

Re: Just an FYI..
I'm going to read the whole thread so sorry if someone said this but is has *always* been illegal to drive with headphones on so I'm assuming ear buds would be no different.
