My boss makes 20k more than I do. I know this because I was offered her job and turned it down because it's a nightmare (not that my job is easy, but hers is worse). Neither of us get a bonus.
It definitely depends on the industry.

I agree with the PPs. It depends on the industry.
I'm a graphic designer and when I worked for a company (newspaper) I was manager of an art department. I made $15-18k more than my employees. I know his because I hired them and knew their salaries

I dont know for a 110% fact, but my boss who is 2 levels above me makes approx 30K more than me. I can tell you I make 30K more than my direct report who is one level under me.

My supervisor makes about double my salary. He is pretty high up though, when I used to have a supervisor who was one level above me, she made a little less than 1.5 times my salary.

In my previous job I knew my boss's exactly salary. She did not make double what I did, though it was significantly more than me - about $115k more.

My DH use to have a Director in between him and the VP in his department. The Director was probably only 20-25K above DH. Recently though my DH has basically moved into that Director role now and directly reports to the VP. The VP salary is a considerable jump from where my DH's salary is. His company has salary bands, the VP is in the salary band above my DH.
ETA - DH is in the electrical engineering field, he was a digital design engineer before moving into an executive role.

I make good money but his is like --- well, he makes like $300,000. lol.
Let's just say I make good money but not that 
However, heavy is the head that wears the crown  He is the numero uno - the big kahuna, the most powerful person in the entire ant farm and that shit aint easy. I don't envy him, money or not.

So I lied!
I do actually make more than double what 1 of my employees makes. But all the other positions I supervise require licenses or advanced degrees and that one does not.
I make about 25% more than most of the other people I supervise. One makes more than me but she has been here longer and has a license that calls for that kind of slarty. My boss makes about 33% more than me.

The levels and titles are really company/career specific.
In my DH's company (electrical engineering) there aren't nearly as many levels as that. If you stay on the electrical engineering track it's basically:
Engineer
Senior Engineer
Principal Engineer
......................but if you go towards the executive level as my DH has done then the levels are:
Manager
Director
VP

I worked in finance and it is very common for your boss to make double. It is about bonuses. If you are a rainmaker, you will make multiple times more.

I have no idea. I work as staff counsel for a large insurance company and have 2 bosses..the levels for attorneys are
-Jr counsel
-Sr counsel (me)
-Associate Managing counsel (my direct boss who manages Long Island office)
-Managing Counsel (main boss who's on the Firms Letterhead and manages LI, NYC and NJ offices)
Above Managing Counsel, we have Regional Counsel who manages NY, NJ and CT staff counsel offices. Above Regional counsel I believe is Head General Counsel for the entire company Staff Counsel offices.
Similar layers exist for staff- secretaries and paralegals are separated into Junior and Senior secretaries/paralegals. I dont know what anyone else earns other than a few coworkers and we are all within 5-10K of each other based on admission date to the NY bar. I imagine my immediate boss must be in the $150-180K range as she has been w the firm for 10 + years and other than upgrading her car to a luxury SUV, still lives in same house/town (mid shore western Suffolk county).

I don't know, but I think it's way more than 2x.
I am a district manager and my base is less than 2x my employees, but I make almost 3x what they do with incentive/bonus added in.
