Boss vs. Your Salary
Do you know how much your boss makes (the one right above yourself if you have more than one)?
Is double the amount you make the norm?

I think this is going to vary based on the industry/field. I work in not for profit so no, no one right above someone else is making double their salary. In fact some people supervise people making more than them based on longevity, etc.

It is going to depend upon your industry and your position, but I would not assume that you boss makes double your salary. I would assume their bonus is double, but not base pay.

It really depends on the field. My husband salary is definitely not anywhere year double the people that work for him. When I was working I started out as a secretary, my boss was at least 3xs my salary...when I "retired" I was a VP and we were pretty close at that point.

My supervisor makes double my salary. That being said, I think she is grossly underpaid for what she deals with. She can go anywhere but its a family business.

I don't know exactly what my boss makes but I would estimate he is somewhere close to 3x my salary. I work in Sales.

Thanks everyone.
The example I am speaking of is:
Boss-at company 17 years, makes almost double than the employee who has been there 22 years.
Not double bonus (which IS included in it but maybe just about $1,000 of that total amount).

Yes I would say probably double. But we get no bonus and this year we did not get any raises either which stinks.

My boss makes about 2 1/2 x's my salary - but we have very different jobs. I wouldn't want his job for any amount of money - I work pretty much 9-5 and pretty much walk away at the end of the day. My boss is attached to his phone/email 27/7

My DH is a manager and he makes double the salary of some more junior employees but a lot less of a gap compared with some more senior employees. He gets a bigger bonus and company stock though.
My "boss" probably makes around 4x my salary maybe more!

I have no idea how much my supervisors make, but my boss is a partner (law firm) and I have heard he makes $1.1mm right now so.. that's quite a few times my salary.

I think this completely depends on what level you are at. For a supervisor / manager to employee I don't think the gap is that big. At the senior level, yes definitely larger gaps I think more than double.
