Just ask nicely if she can have a natural hair color for your wedding day. It doesn't seem to be such a major request to me. If it is a big deal for her, then explain (nicely) that you'd rather not have her in the party. End of story. If it causes drama, so be it. It is your day.

I think I agree with this.

I think I wouldn't have asked her to be in my wedding party in the first place though. Future SIL or not. But DH and I are pretty conservative so that's just us.

Yup! For the exact reason someone else mentioned. The whole white dress and tiara thing wouldn't have sat well with me. That alone I would've thought twice or three times about asking her. Chat Icon

Eh, I'd still have her. But if she showed up in a white dress and tiara to the wedding I'd kick her behind to the curb.

No I wouldn't expect a bridesmaid to change the way they are just to be in my wedding.

I would think that you'd already know she does this and is OK with it if she's been asked to be a bridesmaid, so why would you say something?

I agree.

Agree with this crew. I wouldn't want someone with multi Blue shades of hair in my wedding. On the day of your wedding its all about you, and if it's something that is going to really upset you , you need to tell the person.

Re: If you had a bridesmaid...

I would ask if she can atleast tone it down. A subtle shade of pink or purple i wouldnt mind lol but a bright color wouldnt sit well with me.

I wouldn't expect someone to change their lifestyle, their hair, etc for my wedding- which is just ONE day and doesn't mean nearly as much to anyone else as it does to me.

So no, I would not say anything. It's her hair.

Agree

I hate the whole "don't dye your hair a crazy color and cover your tattoos and take out your piercings" crap. If you pick this loved one, someone near and dear, to stand up for you at your wedding ... You should accept them as is. Not try to "sanitize" (for lack of a better word) everything for a photo op. To me, that means you care more about your photos than the people in them.

For the record, I feel that way and I don't have piercings or crazy colored hair or really visible tattoos.

I agree with this 100%. IMO, the only one who can get away with telling her to change her hair color would be her mom, if it was a sibling that was getting married (like I could see my mom telling me to dye my hair brown or let it grow in for my sister's wedding). I still think the person will do what she wants. I think if the hair color bothered me that much, I wouldn't have asked her in the first place.

Yes but if you already know the person has bright pink hairI would think that this would have taken into consideration when choosing that person to be in the bridal party. It should have also been addressed at the time the person was asked.

i wouldn't say anything. but i could understand why the bride may be upset over it. all of her wedding pictures will show this girl with blue hair, lol. but, it makes for a good story.. and if the SIL has always been like this, nobody would find it odd when they see it. What that girl decides to do with her hair is her choice.

I do have to say, though: i think this SIL sounds a bit selfish if she wore a white dress/tiara to the engagement party, and flat out said she is doing her hair a certain color for the wedding. Seems like she is making it a little too much about herself!

it honestly wouldn't bother me in the least. I could never ask someone to dye their hair for my wedding day.

Re: If you had a bridesmaid...

My Dh sister was my junior bm in our wedding. She was 11 at the time. My MIl is loose cannon and let her do whatever she wanted. For our wedding she let her shave 1/2 of her hair off and dye the rest of it rainbow colored. I wasn't happy but it's Dh sister so what can I do. She ended up not even wearing the same dress as the bridal party because they never had it altered and it didn't fit her the day of our wedding. She also was barefoot in most of my photos which we didn't know until we saw them. In the end it didn't matter. I would never have asked Dh not to have his sister in the wedding and it was still the best day of our lives.
