Shopping vent...

Why is it when I go to be rung up at a store these days, I feel like I'm applying for a job with the secret service?! Why do I have to give my name, address, zip code, phone number, birthday, email, ssn, my mother's email, my mother's maiden name, my neighbor's pets' names, refer all my friends, etc etc just to buy a pair of pants???

Then they ask if I'm a store rewards member. "NO? Why not? Do you want to sign up? But it's free. It only takes a minute! Ok, I'll bother you about it next time.... Do you have a store credit card? No? Want to sign up? You'll save an extra 2% on this shopping trip if you do! Are you sure you don't want it? I'll let you think it over for a few minutes. Still no? Ok, I'll just bother you about it on your next shopping trip..." Don't forget to take our survey online!!!

Lately, I've noticed this happening at every single store I've shopped at. WTF!!! I know stores are trying to give shoppers an "experience", but really, why so much interaction? Look lady I just want the pants, but not this badly!!! Between the inquisition at the door by the greeter, the 15 sales people that come up to me to ask if I need help finding the pants, and the SWAT team at check out that want my first born just to ring me up, I think I may just walk around pants-less from now on. Online shopping has never looked better... although I noticed now I'll get a chat pop-up almost instantly when I visit a site asking if I need help... I can't get away from them!!! lol

Ok vent over lol.

Greeting you when you walk in and approaching you when you're shopping is mostly for loss prevention purposes. They don't genuinely want to say hi - they do it to acknowledge you and this can deter theft.

I hate the pressure for the store cards too. The other day at target the kid really pushed it. I said no twice and then he mentioned Xmas was coming up soon. I just ignored him at that point.

Here's my beef: I don't want to do self checkout !!!! I hate it, I'm bad at it, it always takes longer ... But in most markets now, they only have 2 registers open when I go and there's a line. They always push you to do self check out when I want to tell them that this is going to eventually replace workers.

And when u do the self checkout , they stare you down half the time. I hate it. Hate!!!

OMG self checkout is another one! I'll sometimes do self checkout when i'm left no other options... it is hell. It constantly blocks you and tells you to signal for a store associate to come over. So, every single item I ring up freezes up the checkout process and requires me to call over the store associate... Every single one. Why, then, couldn't the store associate just ring me up and be done with it? It makes the whole experience 1000x more atrocious than just submitting to the blood and urine sample the SWAT team wants to ring me up the old-fashioned way.

Yes, lately I've turned to online shopping more and more... and I think I may just do all my shopping online in the future just to get away from the madness lol.

.............and don't forget that EVERYWHERE you go now also ask if you want to donate to this cause, that cause, and one other cause. I hate being put on the spot to donate money, I find it so awkward. I wish they would stop with that too!!

Except for every day items and grocery shopping I do most all of my shopping on amazon. The prices are the best, it ships fast, and there are no annoying interactions with sales people and cashiers.

That's the worst! I usually donate $1 or $2 but when it's a store I go to all the time... I have to say no cause I've donated so many times already. I feel like they look at me like I'm a jerk for saying no.

This drives me insane. In many cases it's to pre-screen you for credit card offers. I went to NY&Co once and they did their usual 20 questions and proceeded to tell me I was pre-approved for a card. I told her that's an invasion of privacy. I haven't shopped there since and have no plans to.

Even freakier is when you swipe the card you are paying with and then get an offer for their credit card. Makes you wonder what is really being shared.

As for the donations, I have no problem saying No Thanks. I have the dedicated charities that I give to. If it happens to be one I am involved with then I will give something.

Target is the worst. I get harassed about the credit card. I say no, and still get harassed. I can't stand it either

Ulta does this the WHOLE month of Oct for Breast Cancer.
I always give the first time, maybe even the second- but I am in that store so much- and different locations, that it becomes awkward and I feel bad saying no.
I then try to avoid going the rest of the month!

I hate just the opposite happen to me. I went to Kohls to literally buy one thing with a coupon. I couldn't find what I needed and I had to walk aimlessly around trying to find help. It was terrible. I couldn't wait to leave that place.

On a side note - the Target red debit is great and everyone should have it!

But to the OP - I'm so with you. Half the time I'm like "please just let me buy my underwear in peace and yes I would like to pay full price, actually, please double charge me so you can make your quota!"

Yes I normally NEVER get store credit cards, but the Target Red Credit card is seriously a no brainer.
5% off everything. I am there SO much and spend soooo much money there it would be crazy not to have it.
Over a year I save so much with it...it's literally money for nothing.
