My random thought for the day.
Do you eat Chinese food out of the take-out containers?
We never do. But when I see people on TV eating Chinese food, it is always out of the containers (is this so we know they are eating Chinese food?)
Can you guess what I am eating for lunch?

I do eat it out of the containers, yes. Most people I know do it as well. DH is the only one I know who transfers it to a plate!

SAme thing... but did you know that those containers actually break down to be turned into a plate - if you unfold it all the way, those cartons turn into a plate.

this and chicken chow mein i will not eat over rice, but chicken with broccoli i will eat over rice.

This is true too. Just the rice. Now it's all plastic with lids.
Kind of a step back in environmentally friendliness no?

If I am eating at home then I transfer to a plate but if I am eating at work I eat it from the container.

Yup, but we usually either order lo mein or a combo meal with the rice included in the container.
Our local place only uses plastic containers now.
eta: and we only eat with chopsticks

If I order it at work for lunch then out of the container. When we order for dinner and DH and I share stuff then on the plate.

We take the containers, put them in the middle of the table, with the table set with dishes and whatnot... And then each container gets a serving spoon or a fork --- and then we pass them around and spoon food onto our individual plates.
So, no, we don't eat DIRECTLY out of the container.
That - communal eating out of the container, to me, just seems like an incubus of germ invested viral plague just waiting to happen.
