confession time... i must come clean
my son is on his way to become a marine.
a few weeks ago, i posted about how he had just left and i was officially an empty-nester. well, that wasn't completely true... not a lie.
when i wrote that post, he was on his way to MEPS... on his way to camp pendleton. what i didn't tell you was the full story.
originally, DS's "ship out" date was June 1. his recruiting officer took him off that list because DS was not meeting or making strides to meet the minimum physical strength requirements. the recruiting officer felt that DS might have lost his love for the marines. so, DS was in limbo as to when he'd go. he had to prove himself. it took him about 5-6 weeks, but he did it. the child totally stressed me out during the process because i, too, thought he was getting cold feet or had just given up.
so, one day (three weeks ago) i come home from the supermarket to be told by a marine in my front yard that my son will be going to camp pendleton THAT NIGHT/MORNING. because some kid did something to knock him off the list. so, i quickly put together a small going away dinner (going away party #2) and kissed my boy good bye at 2am. that was where i last posted.
during that day, i got a phone call from my baby telling me that he was coming home because a "higher up" put someone else in that kid's place, which knocked my kid off the list. so, the young man came home with the promise of "next monday."
next monday came with a "sorry, no room." and then a promise for august 17.
so... we had ANOTHER going away get-together on saturday (yes, he has had THREE going away parties) and i kissed the boy good bye AGAIN, this morning at 2am.
so, here i am. the empty-nester again? finally? oh, who knows.
for DS's sake, i hope they don't bring him back for the next 13 weeks.
let's see if it sticks. i'll keep you posted.

confession time... i must come clean
Sorry for the stress you have been under. The military life is not for everyone. You can't just muddle along like you could maybe do in other jobs, you know? Your heart really has to be in it to succeed personally and professionally. It's not for everyone and that's ok - it shouldn't be for everyone. You're giving up much of your life. Many go into training and wonder what they got themselves into.
He will find his way and will realize what he wants to do. :)

Crazy that he had to go through all that when recruitment is down.
My hubby went and didn't come home for 16 weeks bc he had kidney stones during his first week at boot.
Graduation from boot is the most amazing thing ever! You will be shocked and proud of his transformation.
Pay attention to the way he eats during his first meal with you at graduation. Don't ask why now, just remember for later. You'll giggle. I promise.
