Montauk for the day?
Aside from the beach and lighthouse, is there anything else you would recommend doing? 4 adults and 5 kids (ages 4-8) if that makes a difference.

Re: Montauk for the day?
Haven't been out there in several years, but when we did go, we didn't feel it was friendly for people just coming for the day.
There was one public bathroom we found in town which was flooded inside and dirty.
There was a lot to do in terms of restaurants and some festival type stuff outdoors, plus lighthouse, but definitely keep this in mind, especially if you are planning to go to the beach with young kids.
Maybe it's changed but the stories I read in the news don't make it sound that way unfortunately.

Montauk for the day?
We just went for the day and had an awesome time. We left very early. Had breakfast at John's pancake house. Walked around town--they had a Farmers Market going on. Then we went to the beach, had a picnic lunch on the beach that we packed. Went to the lighthouse and Gosmans dock to kill time. Then we went to dinner, you can play mini golf, get ice cream. Go home. We loved it!

Montauk for the day?
ETA: Weekday is a lot easier for a day trip. Friday-Sunday is a mad house.

Re: Montauk for the day?
Many resorts offer pool passes for the day for kids - for those who are not guests at the hotel. I know Gurney's, for example, does and it is a beautiful indoor pool that has doors that open to the outside/ocean view --- it is a salt water pool and they have kids hours.

Re: Montauk for the day?
Try Montauk Yacht club for daily pool passes and I think you can swim in the pool at Sole East if you buy lunch there. I would definitely avoid the weekends- mad house with crazy traffic.

Hence why I say that Montauk is changing BY THE MINUTE.
Next week it'll be the Hamptons
It used to be a fun, quaint, little surf community.
Now...

Re: Montauk for the day?
Montauk is packed this week!! I have been there the last two mornings at 8.30 and its packed...but this is probably the last busiest week out there - should be a little better next week for you ....fingers crossed...just go with the flow and try not to get too crazed with the overflow of people all trying desperately to have a good time
