I honestly thought you were unaware of the fact that there is a poster on here who lost a loved one literally DAYS ago to a drowning... I figured you would say, I'm sorry, I didn't know, I was just upset since its summer and I'll edit it but you did not and that bothered me more.
That is why I posted. I waited to allow you the opportunity to do the right thing.
But now I feel like, if you were aware, then did you make the post in response to that?? Are you finger-wagging to those poor people??
I wish you'd reconsider and edit the post. I really wish you would have that level of sensitivity and grace.
This is where I'm at. I also thought the OP was unaware. But then to say it wasn't insensitive bothered me.

Not for nothing, but I've gotten lots of negative feedback about many of these swim lesson places on LI.
Like, half hour lesson where there are one or two instructors who play favorites amongst a not so small group of kids.
Not arguing that being a vigilant parent is not important, but I also don't think shelling out $$ for lessons is the answer either.
I eventually learned how to swim but under my parents supervision and not costly lessons.
Exactly. I have seen parents shell out hundreds and hundreds of dollars to Saf T Swim and guess what? Their kids STILL can't swim. Swim lessons aren't the be all, end all
And I learned to swim the same way as the quoted poster. And my DD will as well

Swimming and Kids
Swimming lessons have nothing to do with it. Teach your kids to respect the pool or any open water. Do not go in unless an adult is watching. Use the buddy system. Swimming lessons are wonderful if your child takes to it but many do not and personally I think swimming lessons gives parents a false sense of security. Just because your child passed a Safe-T-Swim course does not mean they do not need to be watched at all times in the water.

Re: Swimming and Kids
for affordable swim lessons try for Nassau County, the aquatic center. It is based on a lottery system, so you may not always get in, but it is much more affordable than private lessons, and yes it is year round. Also, try a local place like the Freeport Rec center, also more affordable.
I agree swim lessons should not be taken as "great, now my child can swim". You also have to always keep an eye on them and teach them to respect the water and of the dangers. When my DD was smaller and had taken lessons, if we were at someone's house with an in ground pool and they were running around it, life vest was on, or you were not playing, end of story
