New to neighborhood
When you move to a new neighborhood, I assume the polite/tradition/etiquette thing to do is to go and introduce your family to them. My question is which neighbors? Next door on both sides, but behind ? Across the street? Do we bring something? Also, we hope to have a party shortly after moving in for DD first birthday in the backyard. Do we invite the neighbors? ------ thinking way ahead. Thanks!

New to neighborhood
So, when we moved in, as we moved in and were walking around, we introduced ourselves to our neighbors. Our good friends just moved into a very friendly neighborhood and they introduced themselves and have invited neighbors over and vice versa, including for their DD's first birthday.

When we moved in all the surrounding neighbors brought over welcome gifts so I met them then. If they did not do that, I don't think I would have walked around introducing myself but if I saw them outside, then I would go over and say hello.
I would not invite them to your daughter's bday party until you become very friendly with them.

Re: New to neighborhood
when we moved in we didn't go around knocking on doors to introduce ourselves but we are outside playing with our kids all the time and it was the summer so a lot of people walked by, walking their dogs or whatever and we would say hi and start a conversation.
a few of our neighbors have had a casual open house type party where they invited our whole block. very informal but a nice way to get to know your neighbors. its always the same people that participate and the same that don't. there are some people that I've still never met.

Re: New to neighborhood
When we moved in the neighbors on either side of us came by to say welcome. We went across the street to introduce ourselves since they were watering their lawn lol

I see nothing wrong with introducing yourself but I always thought that the people who already live in the neighborhood are 'supposed' to go welcome you. That said, none of our neighbors welcomed us. Our houses are all very far apart and we rarely even see them. We've been here for several years and I wouldn't even recognize them if I passed them in the grocery store.

We didn't do a thing. We saw the ones on either side when we were unloading the uhaul and they came over to introduce themselves but that was it. We met the ones across the street like a year later while outside shoveling snow. I've never considered inviting them over for anything but we're also much younger.

My neighbors on each side were very welcoming. One came the first day we were cleaning the house out and brought us backed ziti. The others offered drinks and were very friendly. Two other people stopped by that were close with the prior owners but I was a mess from cleaning and didn't really get to speak to them much and that was the last contact I had with them. We have no one behind us and we haven't met the people across the street yet. We have been in the house for over a year. Since then people 2 doors down have moved in but I have not seen them to welcome them. I told DH we need to start going for walks to meet more people. I suppose that will happen once I have the baby in the fall.

This makes me feel like I'm a bad neighbor and so are my neighbors lol. I introduced myself to one of them next door because we were both outside on the same day. The others around us I have yet to catch and they have not said anything to me.

Me too. We had 1 neighbor introduce themselves and they're very nice. No one else and we've lived here almost a year. We seem to be in a very unfriendly area even judging from stores and such so I'm not surprised!

Re: New to neighborhood
When we first moved in, the neighbors came over to say welcome but that's about it. Once jack was born and playing more in neighborhood is when we really got to know people. I still don't know neighbors behind us! Are you moving close??? Play dates? Lol Alex needs some friends.
