Re: Your opinion

I was just thinking to myself that I need a pedi this week & both kids may need to come with me. I have no one to watch them easily for just an hour. I don't care if others bring their kids either...loud or not.

Re: Your opinion

I take my girls with me once in a while. They are 3 and 4 and they are always well behaved and just love getting their nails painted. If i knew my kids would act up I would leave them at home.

It's so rude. There are places that little kids "need" to be, like family restaurants and airplanes and that kind of comes with the turf.

But theaters, spas, salons, nice restaurants...it's just plain rude. Especially if they're super-loud.

Kids in movie theaters are a peeve of mine. Not kids at a kids movie during the day/early evening. I'm talking people who bring their 3 year old and infant to see Ted at 10pm.

Re: Your opinion

A kid acting up and a mom more concerned about herself is selfish.

If I was annoyed enough, I would tell her to take her calves and go corral her child.

It would probably start a war but some people are so freakin' clueless or they just don't care.

I stand by what I said, and I take my kids almost everywhere with me...but people pay for adult ambiance at NICE restaurants and theaters, and no one should be straining to hear actors at a theater, or conversation at their own table at a NICE restaurant, etc., so I don't go to those places the way I used to. Or I get a sitter.

It's like the OP said---those are the kind of places that people get babysitters to go out to so they can enjoy themselves, and it's not fair to expect little kids to be consistently quiet enough to make that possible...so I won't be that A-hole.

I occasionally go to a nice nail spa where people get massages, etc., and a loud child would be disruptive...and probably breathe in chemicals I don't want him or her breathing...so I do what I have to do. Basic courtesy.

Sorry but theaters and restaurants. So people with kids are only supposed to eat and friendlies and Applebee's. And never see a show or movie?

And come on a nail salon is the furthest thing from a spa setting.....I've had it more relaxing on the subway at times.

To answer you, YES. Little kids don't belong at a theater unless the show/movie is geared for them. IMO, it's selfish and unreasonable to put the kids through a long adult experience, and it's really selfish to the actors and to the other people who paid for tickets because little kids at an age-inappropriate show are simply not generally capable of being that quiet for that long--not fair to anyone.

Ditto re: NICE restaurants and the spas and salons I've been to. It's rude and inappropriate.

if I take my kids to the theater, it's for their enjoyment. And they're surrounded by other kids their age. Or I get a sitter. Or I don't go.

Seriously. ITA with alli!!

IMO, I don't have a problem with kids being anywhere as long as they are well behaved. That's really the key. Who cares if a cute little 3 yo is sitting getting a mani/pedi if she's well behaved. It's the kids where the parents aren't paying attention and letting them run wild that's a problem. It's NOT the location, it's the parenting.

My DD has always been extremely well behaved, even as a tiny peanut, so I wouldn't have hesitated to bring her to a movie, a nice place to eat, or the salon. Oh, the horror!! Chat Icon

Some people don't know the definition of well behaved though and like the woman who had her kids at the nail salon that day, running around while she was ignoring them, or the parents who brought a crying baby into a 9pm movie one time, or the woman on my most recent plane ride that made her kid say mom 12 times before answered him, some people are clueless what well behaved means.

I agree with the OP that there are just some places that are designed not to bring kids. You make sacrifices when you have kids. One of them, IMO is going to a nice restaurant or nail salon or movies when your children are not small infants or older and know how to behave.

I agree with this, but I don't think the typical LI nail salon fits into the category. I don't bring my kids because the 1-2x a year I get to go it's because I actually got out of the house alone for once. If I wanted a relaxing experience I wouldn't go to a nail salon- I'd go to a day spa

I find anytime that I am able to do something without kids, is a relaxing experience lol. It is a "me" time where you don't have to take care of anyone but yourself. If you are getting your nails done and your child needs something, how do you do that with wet nails?

My opinion, I don't think it's a big deal. He was just talking a lot, it's not like he was running around or acting crazy.

My son has been to fancy restaurants since he was two, people don't like it, they can go scratch! I'm not altering 100% of my life because I became a parent. Because I have a kid I have to only go to Chuck e cheeses? Yeah ok!

My DS is also my road dog, he goes to the hair salon, nail salons, restaurants - everywhere.

However, i do only take him to kid movies wbecause he ask a lot questions & is annoying lol. I always have to tell him to be quiet.Chat Icon

I recently had to take DS to the nail salon. We were going away the next day and I had no choice. He sat quietly on his iPad and everyone in there complimented me on how well behaved he was. My older DS has never stepped foot in a nail salon because I know he would have been disruptive.

Sorry, but you will only take him to kids movies because he annoys you at other movies, but a couple going out to an expensive restaurant for a nice quiet dinner, who might be annoyed by a young child acting up - they have to go scratch??? Seems like quite a double standard to me. There are plenty of family restaurants that are decent and not Chuck E Cheese that it wouldn't be a problem to have young children there. But an expensive upscale restaurant where people are looking to have a relaxing evening and paying good money -why should they have to deal with your child when you don't even want to when it would be annoying for you?

A-to-the-MEN.

I'm blown away by what some of my mom friends consider 'well-behaved.' Maybe I'm just overly strict...?

If I need to get nails done and don't have someone to watch my kid - I don't go. I would hate for my kid to be the one that disrupts someone's relaxation time. I know how precious a mom's time is and I wouldn't want my kid to potentially spoil that.

Yes because my son doesn't stay quiet in a movie because he ask a lot of questions so it is disruptive, if it annoys me then it will annoy others. My son was never disruptive at restaurants so I guess that's the difference. But to make a blanket statement that kids aren't allowed at fancy restaurants is quiet dumb in my opinion. Or to say they were talking to much at a nail salon. I think at the nail salon I run in to more women who gossip and talk loudly and I put my head phones on.

And if the mere presence of child is annoying to someone because they are at a "fancy" restaurant then yes they can go scratch. I'm talking about a child behaving.

Eta: I also don't understand the mentality, so it's ok for my kid to act like an "@sshole" in Applebee's ? If my child is behaving crazy anywhere he is going to get the look and be taken outside.

I personally don't take my DS who is almost 2 to the nail salon just because I like to go for a little time to myself.

Most nail salons are certainly not fancy spas so I see no issue with bringing a kid. People talk on their phones, to their friends - its not a special environment.

I am not surprised either as I see it all the time out in public. I saw such a difference between my oldest and youngest class (5 yr difference). The older class was so much more well behaved and the younger just run around like animals. I stopped going to many functions at the school and after school activities as I could not deal with it anymore. Parents totally ignoring their kids so they can sit around and yap.

Yes, kids are well behaved when they are on some type of technology. Take that away and let's see how well they deal with sitting in a nail salon or other place for an hour or two occupying themselves. They can't as these kids are thrown ipads and iphones and ds's to keep them quiet and behaved.

Nope he isn't because I don't believe in them at the restaurant or when eating. I'm also against him having his nose in technology, but we went through this with my stepson so my son does not play video games and is rarely allowed on my phone. At the nail salon he will look at s magazine or maybe talk to me.

At the hair salon because I am there for 4 hours (it sucks) I may let him watch a movie but after he reads and colors. But I only take him when I have no other choice.

He actually sits at the table and orders his meal himself at a restaurant. Something my 17 year old stepson can barely do.

No the me me me is someone who feels they are entitled to do whatever they want and bring whomever they want to places intended for adults.
I don't get much me time (and no, I don't consider work me time) so if I want to go get my nails done (not very often as I can not afford to do so), I would like to have it to be me time and relax a little bit.

Is your child occupied with some type of technology at these places?

Nope he isn't because I don't believe in them at the restaurant or when eating. I'm also against him having his nose in technology, but we went through this with my stepson so my son does not play video games and is rarely allowed on my phone. At the nail salon he will look at s magazine or maybe talk to me.

At the hair salon because I am there for 4 hours (it sucks) I may let him watch a movie but after he reads and colors. But I only take him when I have no other choice.

He actually sits at the table and orders his meal himself at a restaurant. Something my 17 year old stepson can barely do.

Then I applaud you as the majority of kids have technology wherever they go. Then the parents claim they are well behaved.
