Sounds about right. 20% tip is what I give when I am pleased with the results.

I always do 20%. If different people did the cut and highlights, then I break it up according to how much each cost. I'll throw in a couple extra dollars to round up sometimes so I'm not handing them a bunch of singles.

Re: Haircut and partial highlights

That is high compared with what I pay. I always tip 20%, though if I wasn't happy I would probably tip the same and not come back.

I pay a lot less for a cut and full highlights but I don't go to a fancy salon. I always tip 30% because I have a lot of hair abd my girl is amazing.

I pay a lot less.
I go to a woman in her home though.

I recently got a FULL head of highlights, as well as lowlights as well as a "break the base" color at the roots.
And a haircut

It was $105

I always tip 20% of the total

WOW!

And she's excellent. I love my color more now than when I was going to a pricey salon and paying double to walk out unhappy every.single.time.

I guess working out of your home allows you to offer much better prices. Low overhead/all profit in your pocket once you pay for supplies, etc

Re: Haircut and partial highlights

Wow $155 for haircut and color seems so pricey to me. I get color done every 6-8 weeks (i have naturally black hair and dye it light brown). I pay $60 for single process and around $90 for double process or w highlights.

Haircut and partial highlights

I don't get highlights but I pay $60 for single princess color with a glaze and $60 for a hair cut. So I usual wound up spending around $120 plus tip. I am pretty sure if I did highlights it would be more.
