ICD-10 New Billing
So, many of you may know that medical billing is changing as of October 1st of this year. We will be going from 17,000 to over 140,000 diagnosis codes... and this is why :
New codes :
V95.40 = Unspecified Spacecraft Accident Injuring Occupant.... how many people WORLDWIDE could this possible be applicable for?
X52 = Prolongs Stay in Weightless Environment
V97.33 = Sucked into Jet Engine
W61.12 = Struck by Macaw
V91.07 = Burn Due to Water-skis on Fire
W56.22 = Struck by Orca, initial encounter
versus
W56.32 = Struck by Marine Mammal (aren't orca's marine mammals?)
Y92.253 = Hurt at the Opera
Y92.146 = Swimming pool of PRISON as the place of occurrence of the external cause (wrong on so many levels)
V00.01 = Pedestrian on Foot Injured in Collision with Roller-Skater
W61.33 = Pecked by a Chicken
W55.21 = Bitten by a Cow

I could see this one being used for people hit by drones, but then again, how many times could that be used ?

Not aircraft - spacecraft - like a rocket ship, or the MIR space station... like that. Aircraft is another code, and I'm sure that drone will be a whole separate code as of ICD-11.

"Struck by Orca, initial encounter" - Because there are likely to be subsequent encounters???? (Sorry, I'm guessing it means initial encounter with the medical professional, but the way it reads just, aside from the whole "struck by Orca thing, just made me laugh. As did the whole rest of the list - thanks for sharing!)

You are correct! Initial encounter with the medical professional (lol, not with the orca, though that would be an interesting story to tell).

I am sooooooooooooooooo not looking forward to migrating over to this. I made a crosswalk of the codes we use all the time and their ICD10 counterparts, and I'm going just pray that we don't get anyone in my office with a cow bite or spacecraft injury.

Thank Goodness for Neurology it's really not that bad. But my doc doesn't even accept that it's going to be a massive sh!t show. His wife is nvolved in the practice, and I told her how bad they are anticipating it to be and she was shocked... like how can you be shocked.
