Honda Pilot - Old body or New body?

So DH and I were talking and we need to change one of our cars at some point in the next 4 months... we know we want a suv type vehicle. We both like the pilot however I like the new body style of course and he likes the old..

he thinks we should take advantage of the lease deals they have now on the old body and I think no... that's a shocker!Chat Icon

What do you ladies opine?

Re: Honda Pilot - Old body or New body?

I am not too familiar with the differences in the old and new body, but if you are leasing it, I would agree with him
Get the old style on a good deal. It's not like you are keeping it more than 3 years on a lease.
So in 3 years you can get a new one and for now you get a much better deal.

If you were buying it and planning to keep it for a while I would say to go for the new style.

Re: Honda Pilot - Old body or New body?

I dislike the old style and like you, my lease is done in Aug so I was hoping it was out soon!

New body style is so much nicer!

BUT

If Honda throws me a deal on the 2015....that could work for us Chat Icon

BTW: the new one...its out already in the dealerships.

Honda Pilot - Old body or New body?

I have a civic I just had services at Honda and saw the new pilot. My mom and brother both have pilots and I personally like the older one better than the new!

Since I'm not a fan of the old body I'd hold out for the new redesign. Plus, I'd want all the new updated features inside and out that it offers.

Did you look at the Toyota Highlander? That's REALLY nice too, I think that's what we are leaning towards for our next SUV.

we like the old body style better than the new. DH just leased a 2015 and is paying 215 a month for 36 months.

I like the new style better but, if you are leasing, I'd go with the better deal.

I clearly dont want to work today! See I like the new body it looks less boxy and I was thinking like Hofstra26 seems like they made some improvements and I thought we would want tthat... HOWEVER as luckysmom just posted those are the kind of deals we are hoping to get... Sh!t I hate this car nonsense. Nervousnell you are right and thats the thing that stings me!

I agree. I love the new one but get it in 3 years when the lease is up. Right now there will not be any deals. I love Honda New Rochelle. Yes it's in Westchester but they do awesome 0 down deals. Check their website for their specials. They had the 2015 pilot EX for 349 just have to pay taxes. No other funny fees. Except for DMv. I've seen for lower too.

He traded in his 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. I'm not sure how much they gave him for it but he went back and fourth with the dealership for an hour and a half to get the price he wanted.

He just traded in his 2007 Santa Fe for it nothing else down. I don't know how much they gave him but he went back and fourth with the dealership to get the payment he wanted. He went to Honda city on Hempstead tpk in Levittown. It's the model one up from the base model.

Re: Honda Pilot - Old body or New body?

We just got a 2015 body style. I absolutely love it and we paid $6000 below sticker. I prefer this body style to the new one but it was also a deal we could not pass up. DH wanted to wait for the new one because of all the new features but couldn't pass up the deal we got. I truly enjoy driving it.

question - do you have to use the dealers financing to get the lease prices they are offering... I know with financing you dont...

Re: Honda Pilot - Old body or New body?

ive been researching both models and prefer the new body. but a big part of that is because i want the seating for 7 (not 8) and that is not offered in the 2015

i would agree with the poster that mentioned if you are leasing go for the 2015 since you can probably get a better deal
if you are buying i would opt for the 2016

With leasing it's typically their financing. I've always had my Honda leases through Honda financial.

Honda Pilot - Old body or New body?

I'm a guy (the OP asked for "ladies") but personally I like the old body on the exterior but the new interior is nicer. The 2015 is more "truck" like while the 2016 is more "crossover". The other big change for the 2016 is the availability of captains chairs on the 2nd row which is more convenient for 3rd row access.

We bought a GMC Acadia Denali last fall. The acadia has a more truck like stance which made me like it over the Enclave/Traverse (it's siblings). I couldn't stand the "fake" brake vents on the Enclave. I can empathize with your husbands feelings.

That being said, I'll add a few other comments that may sway your decision. It's usually not a good idea to buy the first year a car is released since they're often working out the kinks. (I've done it before, but just saying it's a caveat). Also, financially speaking you can usually get a really good deal on the outgoing model when there's a new generation since most buyers are waiting for the new model.

In 2006 we bought a Honda CRV and opted to get the 2nd Gen which was the "boxier" outgoing model vs. the new crossover model.

Hope that helps.
