I don't give money for engagement parties. I do a small token type keepsake gift.

Same. There will be gifts later for the bridal shower and then the wedding.
A crystal frame, or a nice vase is usually what I do.

I would only give a keepsake gift if I'm close to the person or know their taste, otherwise check or gift card.

Engagement party

cash is usually given at engagement parties and weddings
a gift is usually given if you cannot attend the engagement party, wedding or it is given for the bridal shower.

that is how i grew up and how it was when i got married

Not being registered is code for "we want cash".

I would agree with you if this were a bridal shower but generally, IF someone has an engagement party they aren't yet registered at that point, it's too early. At least that has been my experience over the years.

That being said, I would give either money or a small gift like a pretty candy dish, frame, vase, etc. etc. Something nice for their home down the road.

How? We had a e party about 6 months after we were engaged. We paid for it ourselves and didn't ask/expect gifts. We wanted families to meet and basically have a good time

We didn't register for a shower for a year and a half and we were married after that bc we saved to pay for out own

Re: Engagement party

Am I that naive. I am happy to celebrate events for family and friends. And if hey have a party yay! They are fun

I don't think they are asking for gifts?? And if I'm against them then I don't go

Exactly. I hate engagement parties. I was just invited to one that is out of state and the wedding (also oos) is only 5 months away. No registry. Eff that.

OP, I say re-gift!

Re: Engagement party

I don't necessarily think if they haven't registered it's because they want cash. Usually people don't register until closer to the bridal shower.

Give whatever you like. Cash, gift card, keepsake, trinket, nothing lol... but don't forget the card!

Re: Engagement party

Can someone explain why we give gifts at an engagement party when we will be showering the bride with gifts at her shower and then a gift at the wedding? I don't understand the purpose of the engagement when you have the wedding to celebrate. I had to save for almost two years for my wedding, I couldn't imagine throwing another party on top of that.

I'm legitimately asking? I've never been to one because my friends and family just don't have them. But if I did, I would give a cash gift and love to party. I just don't get the logic behind why we give gifts for an engagement, lol.

I don't mind an engagement party.... Celebrate the happy times when you can.... I really was just looking for ideas when I posted the thread not whether or nit a person should have an engagement party.
