How much do you give for an engagement gift...with no party.
My girl friend got engaged and I just found out they are not having an engagement party. I still want to give her either money or money towards Liberty Travel for their HM.
How much do you think is appropriate??

I wouldn't give money. I would do something more sentimental like stuff she will need while planning.
a wedding planner
a subscription to a bunch of wedding mags
etc...

Yeah...I already did that. I got her a planner and a couple of books that I enjoyed when I planned my wedding.

We didn't have an engagement party and only one person (my aunt) gave us money. Others gave gifts.
My cousin gave the BEST gift -- several different wedding books in a gift bag: Chicken Soup for the Bride's Soul, Emily Post on Weddings, The Wedding Countdown Book (came with a counter!), and also a couple of chocolate bars. In the card, she wrote a really sweet message that ended with - "and there's chocolate for when you need it!"
I thought it was so thoughtful!

I think this is a better idea than just giving money. Otherwise, if they do a HM registry, you can always give money there.

i didn't have an engagement party and the gifts I got were all 'things' from my registry. Excluding family members, the gifts ranged from $50-$100. I got a few cash gifts, but they were from family.

I would give money. I didn't have an engagement party mostly because it cost too much money and I needed money.
