How would you feel about this? What would you do?

We live on a corner lot. Right across the street (to the side of my house) used to be a bank. It closed down and now it's being turned into a hedge fund/financial office. They are gutting the whole thing and have big dumpsters in the parking lot.
Our front door rings at 6:00 tonight and it's a guy saying that it's his business that's going in next door. He then goes on to say that his workers are convinced that we're the ones dumping trash in their dumpsters- old fencing material and an oversized chair. He said that his workers were passed and wanted to confront us themselves. He said that he convinced them not to. My DH assured him that we did no such thing, nor would we. At first he didn't seem like he believed him, but by the end I think he did. But either way, I'm pissed!!!
First off, how dare he knock on my door accusing of us! Second of all, where in the world did they get the idea that we would do something like that? And third, now I'm going to have to worry about his workers confronting me?! Am I supposed to feel intimidated now in my own neighborhood?
What if anything would you do? My DH says leave it alone. But I swear there's a part of me that wants to walk over there tomorrow and let these workers know, in no uncertain terms, that we ARE NOT using their dumpster.

Leave it be.
Nothing good would come out of you confronting the workers.

The workers will be gone but the business is there to stay. I think it's bullsh1t that these people are going to think we were illegally using their dumpster.

Let them think whatever they want. Unless they have proof, what can they do?

I wonder if its the owner who is pissed, and he's just saying its his workers.

Because why do the workers care? All they are going to do is tell the boss that someone used the dumpster, go rent another one. So it would be the owner that would be pissed, not the workers.

I'm sure it was both if them. He was very business-like, but it was clear he was accusing us. He said his workers were convinced it was us. Mind you, unless they think I'm the one lugging trash across the street, they are way off base. My DH was on a golf trip 2 out of the 3 nights they're saying this happened.

He, or any of them, come on your property again you tell them they are not allowed on the property and if they don't leave you will call the police and have them collared for trespassing. How dare he come and basically accuse you of doing something illegal when he has absolutely no proof of it? I would tell him to get the F.U.C.K off my property.

OMG, thank you! Because that's exactly how I feel about it. DH was all kind and calm and trying to convince the guy it wasn't us, meanwhile I wanted to tell the guy to go F himself.

Frankly, they deserve what they get. you NEVER leave a dumpster out. The reason is that people will dump sh!t in it so THEY don't have to pay to haul it. Whoever has the dumpster pays per cubic foot.

So if they are stupid enough to leave a dumpster overnight they deserve to have people throw crap in there...because, unfortunately , people ARE crap and will do anything not to do the right thing.

I wouldn't do anything. It doesn't sound like the business owner confronted you in an abusive way (yelling or cursing). So while I would be annoyed to be falsely accused, I think he handled it appropriately... except maybe the part about mentioning that the workers were going to confront you and he stopped them. Given that I didn't hear the conversation, I am not sure if that was said as a veiled threat or maybe he just used poor judgment in leaving that detail in, but was trying to explain why he was on your doorstep raising the issue.

I just look at the bigger picture -- Do you want to start a war with a new business that is just coming in on your corner? I'd hope it was an isolated incident that is resolved and let it go unless anything further happens.

And honestly, I don't think it's trespassing to walk up to someone's door and ring the doorbell if you need to speak to them. Unless she had a restraining order against the guy OR he refused to leave when asked, then I don't see how there was any wrongdoing here. If he does come back again, yes - I guess you can ask him to leave and threaten to call the cops, but unless he's constantly harassing you about this or being threatening or abusive in his approach, I think that would be an overreaction.

This. Sounds like his approach was a d!ck move. If could have asked you if you or your husband saw any neighbors using their dumpster.
