Little things you love about your workplace?

I'm on a committee for work and feel like we have a lot of our bases covered already.

Looking for new and creative ideas to help boost overall morale as a team, as well as offer things patients may appreciate.

We already do a sunshine committee.

I work in a healthcare setting. Thanks!!

Little things you love about your workplace?

Free lunches, flexible hours.

I think just as important is the flipside to this question:
while flexible hours, little to no paid time off, no consideration holiday weekends/holidays, no room for growth, pay increases, etc.

Where do you work?

Re: Little things you love about your workplace?

My company does a lot of great little things that I love, especially coming from a past company that did NOTHING.

Summer Hours - in the summer we're given the option of working 8:30 - 5 M-Th and then getting out at 2:30 on Fridays. LOVE THIS!

Lotto tickets on our birthday - we get a bunch of lotto tickets attached to our pay checks on our birthday each year.

They give out a very generous savings bond any time someone has a baby

Summer BBQ & Christmas Party - each summer they host a pretty nice company picnic. And in the winter they do a very nice Christmas party either on the Circle Line or at a nice catering hall nearby. The nice part is that they do it during work hours (so we don't need to come on our weekends off) and we get paid for it. AND they give away some pretty awesome prizes at both.

We also get out half day early the day prior to a holiday.

About once a month they do a "corporate update meeting" which is really just a 10 minute update on how the company is doing followed by an hour long free lunch which they cater (either pizza or wraps and salads).

All in all, I greatly appreciate it!

ETA: I forgot about our casual Fridays year round where we can wear jeans and sneakers. We also have a kitchen on both floors with tea and coffee. They delivery milk and half & half weekly to the fridge on both floors.

Our boss lets us wear jeans on Friday.

The company hosts a holiday party and BBQ around memorial day.

At my old job we had summer fridays... so every other friday we would rotate with a coworker to take a half day.

Re: Little things you love about your workplace?

Well, just as I read this post there was a stampeding herd of co-workers running to the front of the building where Mr. Softee is waiting - he comes each day around 2-2:30pm Chat Icon

But yeah lots of great benefits here and nice perks -- just had to add this as the timing was ironic. Not that the job pays for it but people go bananas when he shows up Chat Icon

ETA - as far as a job benefit, the health insurance and the pension. can't get better than that.

Re: Little things you love about your workplace?

I might be a weirdo but I hate company sponsored things like picnics, etc. Things were we all have to hang out together like rah rah sis boom bah!
LOL

I'd prefer the money.

Like give me $100 gift card for good work- or a bonus plan, or have good raises, or give extra days off, more paid holidays, etc - don't make me socialize with you guys after hours.
That's the last thing I want.

Personally I enjoy a work place with a nice kitchen set up- GOOD coffee, GOOD snacks in the vending machines, bottled water, stuff like that.

Maybe a nice catered lunch once a month, or a catered breakfast with bagels, donuts, etc.

lol.
In my case, it is setting my retirement date because after almost 20 years here, I really can't find anything that I even remotely like about my workplace, other than I get a paycheck.

Oh wait, the company matches part of our 401K contributions. That's only because they took away our pension plan years ago.

I sooo agree!! LOL, I dont have time to socialize with the friends I have and um I spend way too many hours here , dont need to spend more time with my coworkers. I used to work at a place with an awesome kitchen with all the things you listed....this place now is a dump. They even count how much water you take from the cooler!!

I know this sounds silly but my old job used to have a "milkman" Chat Icon , who would deliver fresh milk and half and half every week. We had a Keurig machine and it made all the difference.

This place orders those tiny cups of Coffee Mate from Staples or wherever. They aren't even refrigerated so W T F is in them to keep them shelf stable? All chemicals, that's what.

They taste like utter shyt and even thought we have a brand new, commercial type Keurig and good K Cups like Starbucks, etc. the coffee is pretty much undrinkable if you use those creamers and i have to bring from home in the morning and hit up DD or Starbucks in the afternoon if I feel like a cup of coffee.

So frustrating

I want to add something.

GOOD coffee is a great idea. We have Flavia and its gross. A bunch of us got together and have a Keurig at one desk.

My retirement gives us 7.5% of our salary into 401k. Plus they match the first 1% of 5% (or something like that) but that 7.5% is REALLY nice.

but for me the 1/2 day before a holiday/holiday weekend, and Jeans Friday is really nice.

Little things you love about your workplace?

During the summer we get to wear jeans on Fridays, my old firm allowed jeans and sneakers on Fridays year round. Also during the summer, not a firm policy, but my boss will either let me come in late or leave early one day a week depending on how busy we are.

We have a good kitchen setup on all floors with a Keurig, lots of coffee and tea varieties, whole, 2%, skim and half and half in the fridge, filtered water system, sugar, splenda, equal and sweet and low. They used to have single serving crystal light packets, but people were taking them home, so that was the end of that!

If we are in the office until 8 or later they give us a car service home. I don't use it anymore since I prefer to work from home if it's going to be a late night, but it was great to have when I did stay late.

Re: Little things you love about your workplace?

My old job-

Bagel Fridays
Keirig machine with lots of coffee options and fresh milk delivery
6-8 week fully paid maternity leave if you've been with the company at least 5 years
Really fancy nice holiday party
Free good food for meetings

Current job (I'm not a teacher but I work in a private school)

Winter & spring breaks
Three weeks in the summer and summer hours
More holidays off
Holiday as well as end of year collection for faculty/staff that we get in our paycheck. Has been between $100-350 after taxes
Teacher and staff appreciation week giftcards, lunch and baked goods by parents
Birthday treats (our hospitality committee has a list of people's birthdays for each month and puts small treats for all in the lounge)
Summer reading book (we usually get a choice of three books)
Raffles during all staff meetings
Eta: I forgot to add that they are very pro professional development. They sent me to Vermont and I stayed at a spa for a conference for a few nights and other people have gone to New Orleans etc. I like that since I had zero opportunities for professional development at my old job. Also They have given a raise each year greater than the cost of living raise since I've been here.

Little things you love about your workplace?

I love my job and my husbands, both small companies so they can offer different things. We are allowed to wear jeans all week as long as we dress appropriately (no rips etc), paid birthday off, Christmas party and summer party paid for, a birthday lunch and $50 gift card on the day you choose to have your lunch. We also are allowed to share our time off so in the case someone needs extra time for a baby or sick child, you can donate your days. I love that!
My Husbands company has unlimited days off, they are unpaid but if you save up some money you can take time without penalty. They do a season outing so each season they plan something, this time we are going on a cruise around Manhattan. They also offer great health insurance and give everyone $$ on a health card for copays and a part of your deductible. The only other thing that would be great is a little paternity leave :)

Re: Little things you love about your workplace?

-We get decent vacation and sick days.
-We are closed between Xmas and New Years every year.
-We get three bonus summer days off that we can use whenever we want. They also tack on extra days off for the hell of it sometimes. ie: we are off on Friday and Monday for memorial day.
-My job is pretty lenient about working from home if need be.
-This year they announced that 12 weeks of maternity leave will be fully paid and will not go against your vacation days. I especially love this one as I am due in August.

I'd rather not say but it is a very desirable company to work for in our area ;).

Keep the ideas coming everyone....some good stuff was mentioned.

We already have decent health and other benefits so that will not need to be factored.
