Re: Spinoff to critiquing appearances on this board
It's just variations among people.
It's like how a group of women can be sitting together and a new woman walks by.
One person might whisper "eww...she looks like a man/whore, etc." whatever. And fully believe that it's ok because they haven't met yet and the woman will never know what was said. To her, it's harmless.
Another woman might be in the group and be uncomfortable with that kind of hateful takedown talk, irrespective of whether the woman is known/nice/aware of it.
Women are all different. We all draw our lines in different places.
For me, misogyny/cruelty doesn't have to be about someone I know or even care about or someone who's aware of it. I can be made uncomfortable just in its presence. It's not about the celebs on the board; it's something I have come to learn about myself.

But sometimes I will see a comment on here like "look at her knee...it looks SO WEIRD" or "her pinky finger is at a crooked angle, what's going on there?" or "gross cuticles!" and I'm just like...well WTF, you're probably hunched over your computer screen in two-day-old underwear. I don't really know why people zero in on those tiny details. Or HOW they do it.

Spinoff to critiquing appearances on this board
Agree with this thread for the most part. Some of the comments are ridiculous! It makes me wonder how some people are in the real world. If they are capable of those comments, they are probably nasty in the real world.

Because real life and a celebrity and entertainment forum are the same thing.

This resonated with me deeply. As when it happens in my presence, I'm so uncomfortable, I look for the positive to sort of negate the power of the negative.
Thanks for this share! Passing it on.

I agree, but I think it's easy for people to be cruel from behind a keyboard. None of these celebrities are going to come and confront people about their comments. If people said these things in real life, some people would confront them and I bet that most wouldn't say these things...I'm sure their Facebook friends have pictures where they look a lot rougher than most of the celebrities on here and I'm sure they don't comment about their ugly dress, shoes, hair, face, etc.

No but if someone is talking about neck fat and droopy knees, they clearly have a problem.

Agree 100% and would like to see pictures proving those who have such horrible things to say are 100% perfect because, IMO, to say some of the things that get said on this board they must be. It's the only logical reason I can come up with.
