MacBook Pro users please come in

I got my MacBook in August 2011. Never had a problem with it. Until today. The screen got all wonky with lines and turned black. I shut it off and tried turning it back on but it didn't work.
I did a little seach to troubleshoot and found the article below. This is exactly what's happening.
I was able to turn it back on after about 20 mins. But it happened again about 2 hrs later.
I have an appointment tomorrow with the Genius Bar. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if it was fixable. Seems it's a big problem with this years model.

Re: MacBook Pro users please come in

I just picked up my Mac on Sunday. Mine was the graphic card. I wasn't sure if my stuff was backed up (fixed that now lol) so I left it at the store. He said if I send it out it will be cheaper but they will replace the harddrive and I will lose everything. If I do it in store it will be more money but they will try no to touch anything but the broken part. Luckily, they replaced the logic board and mybharddruve was fine and everything is back now. It cost $526. Would have been around $310 if I sent it out.

Yeah the article says something about the graphics. And the repairs are about what you spent. Sounds like it may be the same thing. How long did they have it for?

Looks like there was a petition out there for Apple to do a recall. I never heard of it or the problem till today.

I dropped off Thursday am and had it back Sunday. Not to bad. Sometimes it would load to a white screen and that was it. Then it would load to white screen with apple in it, sometimes it was a black and blue vertical stripes. He said he thought it was the graphics card b/c it was loading just no graphics lol. I was just happy it wasn't my harddrive with my pics and stuff. I've never had a problem before except for battery. Just annoyed I paid more b/c of my stupidity of not having it backed up lol. Better then buying a new one I guess. He said 3-5 days

So I just came back and it's definitely the graphics card.
After researching this issue and speaking to The Apple tech and a tech at Tekserve ( Apple recommended them to have my stuff backed up), I think I might just buy a new laptop. It would cost over $500 to fix and it's not guaranteed to not happen again. Reading about this problem a lot of people said it happened again a few months later or the hard drive went. There is even a class action lawsuit out there against Apple for this. Unfortunately it's only in CA & FL right now.
