Do I need a Double stroller?

DD will be 4 when new DD is born in April. Do you think I need a double stroller? I still use a stroller when we go to the store, but do I need one when she's 4? I'm thinking for when we go for walks.

Re: Do I need a Double stroller?

If your dd still really likes to be in a stroller maybe a sit and stand would work. My dd was 2.5 when my ds was born and she loves the stroller so I got a graco that is a double but then can convert to a sit and stand one. I'm not going to lie, the way it is now as a double stroller it is big and heavy, but at 3 she still likes to be in a stroller when the mood hits her lol.

If your DD still enjoys the stroller. When my DD was 4 she was in PreK so a stroller was not an option.

No, you don't need one.

Some people use strollers with older kids (zoo, Disney)... But I've done those things with a 2 year old and 4 year old without a stroller easily. Takes a little training and a little patience.

Re: Do I need a Double stroller?

If your older child will still sit in a stroller, it will make your life SO much easier.

My boys (now 3 & 5) will still sit if we go to the mall or something ......
Some will disagree and say they are too old (esp. my 5 year old) but I don't care. It makes my life easier and I can run around getting things done, keeping them safe - not having to worry about holding their hand, them running off etc -

Re: Do I need a Double stroller?

DS1 was 2 yrs old when DS1 was born so we did get a double. Worked great for a couple of years, but around 4 yrs old he really didn't use it anymore and would walk. Only time I really plan to use the double (they are 5 and 3 now) is when we're at the airport. We have super early flights and just easier to get through the airport. Plus, it's a umbrella one so light and small.

Does your single stroller have a big basket? When we go to big places like Great adventure I take the single stroller for my 3 yr old, but if it's a long walk my 5 yr old would sit in the basket.

He is really lazy, but at 4 I made him walk for the most part.

My DS is 4 and will still sit in the stroller if given the option. He loves to go on walks.

Plus, its great for trips where a lot of walking is involved. My DS will only walk for so long before he wants to sit.

I have the City Mini Elite double stroller.

Re: Do I need a Double stroller?

My kids are closer in age so I definitly wanted a double stroller for walking but I picked up a used city mini double in excellent condition off one of those face book buy/sell groups so it didn't cost me a fortune

Id get a sit n stand if she still likes a stroller. My 3 yr old loves to stand in the back (or sit if he's tired). Even when he wants to walk it's nice to have him jump on when I'm in a crowd or parking lot. Also, i keep it in the trunk for even when I just have one of them (my younger ds is now 7 mos) with me. The front can be used to hold the infant carrier or as a regular seat. I wasn't sure how I'd like it so I didn't want to pay a lot. I bought used on a buy sell board for $30! Chat Icon

Totally depends on your lifestyle and your kids
I still use my triple jogger with my 4 and almost 2 year olds for walks and running.

The stores I generally still use a double and they all take turns

My DD was 4.5 when my DS was born, I got a double stroller. (Sit n Stand) She's 6 now and I STILL use the double stroller on vacations, trips to the mall, going into the city, etc. If we're doing anything where a lot of walking is involved she likes having the stroller to take a break. It wasn't expensive so it was worth it IMO.

Re: Do I need a Double stroller?

I'd probably see if I could get a cheap one. DD is almost 4 and rarely sits in the stroller. She might hop in for a few minutes but usually prefers to walk unless we're somewhere that requires LOTS of walking (like Disney but there is always the option of renting in that scenario).

Re: Do I need a Double stroller?

My boys are 3.5 years apart. We bought a sit and stand, which was great for walks around the neighborhood and trips to the mall, etc.

Re: Do I need a Double stroller?

My kids will be 3.25 years apart and I got a well-loved double city mini from a friend. I definitely think we will get use out of it. I agree with checking buy/sell groups.

Re: Do I need a Double stroller?

DS wiill be weeks away from 3 when DD arrives and I decided to not get a double stroller. We rarely use our single stroller with DS as is. I figure if I ever need one ( for Disney or places that require a lot of walking), we will either pick up something cheap if we need to or rent one.
