What age do kids get excited for Christmas morning?

My DD just turned 2 and I don't think she really gets it yet. She likes the Christmas activities, but I don't think she's anticipating gifts.

DD will be 2 also in Feb and she definitley doesn't get the concept of Christmas. She has though been excited with the tree and all the decorAtions and her new toys but she does not get the concept at all.

My son is 3 1/2 and definitely gets it. He is excited even for the elf everyday. At 2 1/2 he got the concept of "presents" but didn't really grasp anything else.

Last Christmas at 3 was when DS really "got" everything and could anticipate Christmas morning, finding the elf, etc.

Last Christmas my twins had just turned 3 and they started to get it but it didn't really hit them until Christmas morning was here. This year they just turned 4 and are so excited for Santa to come. So I'd say 3.5-4ish is when they really get it.

Last year, DD was 2, and she really did not get it. She turned 3 in Aug, and now she is SO excited! She seems to really get it, and keeps asking why Christmas is taking forever to get here. LOL

With my DD I found that at age 3 is when it all clicked and she really got it. She understood Santa and couldn't wait for Xmas morning. Before that though it just didn't really register.

Last year, at 3.5, DD really got it. She was SUPER excited to wake up that morning and see all the gifts under the tree.
It was amazing.
And this year, at 4.5, forget it, even more so!

Re: What age do kids get excited for Christmas morning?

My DS is 3 and very excited. Unfortunately the build up has been so long, and so much (entirely my fault), that it's losing his luster. The other day he was sad and said Santa hadn't left him anything yet. I don't think he understand the month long wait. We first saw Santa on the 5th and that's a long time to wait after that.

This.

And it seems at 5 - you start getting so excited you don't sleep well.

Re: What age do kids get excited for Christmas morning?

DS is 3.5. Didn't really get it last year - though he understood "presents".

This year he's totally into leaving carrots for the reindeer and cookies (and apple juice!) for Santa. First thing he announced when he woke up this morning was that it's only 3 days away.

I'm more excited for Thursday to come than I ever was as a child. Watching him enjoy it is awesome.

TOTALLY totally this!
I cannot wait for Christmas this year and only because of her.
I can't wait to see her that morning and how excited she will be and watch her open her gifts and freak out.

I agree but since my 3.5 yo is SO excited my almost 2 yo DS is also very excited. He is all about Santa, loves the Elf on the Shelf. If you ask him what will Santa bring you he says "Presents!". I'm not sure he totally gets it but he definitely has some idea of what's going on. I'm LOVING it this year between the two of them. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: What age do kids get excited for Christmas morning?

Funny side note to this....this morning DD was hanging out in my bedroom while I was getting ready for work.

She said to me, "Ughhhh, this is getting weird"

I said- "what is getting weird"

She said, "This Christmas thing is getting weird. I'm nervous"

I said- "why would you be nervous about Christmas?"

She says- "Because I'm not even sure if I'll be getting any presents."

I guess all my threats about Santa watching and not bringing gifts if you are bad, really resonated with her and got her thinking!

What age do kids get excited for Christmas morning?

My DS was a few days shy of 2 last year and he knew he was getting presents but he quickly forgot after. This year (few days shy of 3) he is full on into Christmas.
