Please tell me it will be ok

I'm going from a SAHM to a FTWM. I start my very first job teaching in September and I have to send DD to daycare. In the back of my head I know everything will be ok, but I still worry.

I can't help but think: Will they take good care of DD? Will they comfort her when she's upset? Will she sleep when she's supposed to? Will they make sure she doesn't choke on her food?

Any advice from those who made the transition from SAHM to FTWM would be greatly appreciated. Chat Icon

Awww it will be ok! It really will! I'm a SAHM during the summer because I'm a teacher too! It's the best job. You work for half the year (180 days) and get the whole summer off to spend with your LO. I find that the key to being a FTWM is finding a routine that works for you, for both the morning and the afternoon. My DD and DS have always gone to daycare and it is a little scary at first dropping them off with strangers, but they aren't strangers for long. My DD's teacher this past year was the most wonderful woman and I am going to miss having her in DD's life this September. It might take your LO a few weeks to develop a schedule that works at school but trust me, by October you will all be in a new groove that works for you. You have to give yourself September to iron out all the kinks. If it helps your sanity at first, order in dinner and do peapod so that you don't have to spend your precious time shopping or cooking and can spend it instead with your LO. Do whatever you need to do to get by in the beginning of the school year. Just remember, it will be ok! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Please tell me it will be ok

I'm a teacher and go back in September. While my mom watches my daughter I don't have the stress of worrying if she's being cared for. But I hate leaving her. I love the routine we have together and I count the minutes til I get home. But it's something that I have to do. I have to work. So, I make sure that I spend as much time as I can with her between the time I get home and when she goes to bed and it really makes you appreciate the weekends. It will be ok and you do get into a routine. It may not be how you want things, but you can't beat yourself up over it.

I'm a teacher too and my LO started daycare at 10 months. This new LO will start at 3 months. It was hardest thing I ever had to do but my DS thrived.

Pp gave great advice....routine will be key for both if you. And Sept will stink! I cried for 3 weeks after drop off, but I roomies, t does get better! The best part of my day is pick up when I get big smiles and big hugs and kisses.

Our routine includes a slightly later bedtime than we'd like...9pm, but it gives us a chance to spend time with him after dinner. Weekends are busy bc we try to pack it all in but we have fun!

Didn't make a transition from SAHM but went back to work when DD was 8 weeks old.
I was nervous, it's totally normal!
But as long as you have a daycare you trust, you and she will be FINE.

I was so worried because DD was colic and never slept. I remember crying to my mom the week before that she would be thrown out of daycare for being such a bad baby.

Within a few days, they had my DD sleeping better, eating better, crying less.
Fact is, the teacher in the infant room had a LOT more experience than me (as a mom and a daycare provider) and she was able to get DD to do things I couldn't.

DD was loved, cuddled, nurtured.
I would come to get her and the DIRECTOR would be in the infant room snuggling with her and saying she just needed a baby fix. Chat Icon
She couldn't have been in better hands. I felt like i was leaving her with family.

In a few weeks, you will get in a groove, see your DD thriving there and learning so much.
It will get easier!

Thanks for the support everyone Chat Icon

I know I'm being a big baby, but I just feel like this will be a huge transition and I'm not ready to be away from my baby so much. I should be thankful that I at least had a year with her, but the reality is I have to go to work, and I know DD will be fine. Ughhh I know I'm going to cry when I drop her off on the first day! It's so odd how when children are grouped together into a structured setting they follow a herd mentality. They will all eat at the same time and sleep at the same time. She may have a few days of adjustment but my dd they say is soooo good and does everything she's supposed to and is a great listener. Not always the same when she's with me! Your dd will enjoy it too, it's fun being with her friends. However when I first dropped dd off I sobbed for a week and wanted to quit my job. Good luck, it'll be way harder on you than her!
