trying to move my LO to his crib
so my son is 4 months now, and for the life of me I cannot get him to sleep in either the pack n play or his crib
It was more my fault because i left him in the fisher price rock n sleeper until now because i felt it was more comforting for him. he is now getting too old or long for this sleeper
I added the vibration feeling to the mattress of the pack n play, and i also added a sound machine, lights and a mobile to his crib- all just DOES NOT work
I tried both the pack n play and his crib and all he does is CRY. I don't mean cry, he whales for hours and i get suckered in and i bring him back to the sleeper.
Any suggestions for the transition?

Had the same problem, except my Son slept in his swing until 7 months. We had to CIO, it's the only thing that worked. The first day was a nightmare, hardest thing not to give in, but I knew I had to stick to it. By day 3, he slept like a dream and all good.
That''s what worked for us, allot of people can't stand to do CIO.

we used the rock and play the first 8 weeks, then we put the pack and play in our room next to my side of the bed so I could rub his back and comfort him. Then after a couple of weeks we put him in the crib. He would only last half the night in there at first but each night it got longer and longer.

yea i totally cannot, after 30 min i am in w him
i tried to shower- watch tv etc to drown out his cries
MY DH works night and i work full tme so that makes it even harder

I had that issue at 4 months when we tried to move him.....we had to CIO. It was a rough couple of days and I think we did it over a weekend so we could sleep during his naps if needed.

I had to cry it out. First night was hell and he cried 36 mins. I felt like I was going to jump out a window. Second night was 15 mins, third night he just went to sleep. Has slept in there through the night since.
Edited to add that we did CIO just before 6 months

He is currently at my parents house today which we call "Boot camp"
well, my dad gave in after an hour woth of him crying my son napped in the swing LOL
I feel bad for the people who live downstairs from me, i guess i will have to let him CIO- and mommy will be crying as well

You don't "have" to do anything you don't feel comfortable doing. We made the transition when DS was younger. But I basically made a nest in his crib to simulate the rnp. I elevated it with a crib wedge, and put receiving blankets underneath his crib in a circle. The I put him down in the circle. I think it made him feel more secure. You can also try moving the rnp to his room to get use to being away from you. Maybe something with your scent on it...

It's not for everyone, do what is best for all of you. You will get to a point as a last resort to CIO if nothing else works.
Try moving the sleeper into his room. We did that even with the swing, just to give DH & I alone time & to get my DS used to his own room. Start with that, see how it goes and then decide.

I'm a HUGE proponent of CIO but I wouldn't CIO at 4 months.
What *I* would do - let him sleep wherever/however he wants and transition to crib/CIO at around 7 months.

We had her do some naps in the bassinet, and part of the night in the bassinet - gradually spending more time in flat bassinet and less time in rock n play.,she was eh in the cri/bassinet until she could roll onto her stomach, and slept much better after that.

We kept our little one in the rock and play at first but I started putting her in her cribs for nap time or just some play time. Maybe try keeping her swaddled when you put your little one in the crib. Also, try just putting the rock and play in their room at first. I noticed for a little while it was the room she spent the least amount of time in so it took some time to get really comfortable alone in her 'new space'

Get one of those things that prop him up and swish him in for the crib and pack and play. Both are very flat and wide open spaces whereas a rock and play squished them in.

ITA. We did this as well. First I moved the rock n play into his room for bedtime. During the day, I would put him in the crib for naps. Then into the crib for the first part of the night. After a few days, I tried swaddling him and that helped the transition tremendously. I'm not sure where your son is at 4 months and if you want to even start swaddling but you could try it for a week just to get him used to the crib and then wean off the swaddle. DS is now sleeping all naps in his crib, and bedtime in the crib for 5 hours streches (9 pm to 2 am and then 3 am to 8 am)

in order to put my son in his crib I had to have him tightly swaddled and put vibration on.
Now that he rolls I don't swaddle him but put him in a sleep sack. Also a bedtime routine to let him know it was time to go to sleep. Same thing every day.
Bath, lotion, pajamas, turn off the light, turn on the sound machine, sleep sack, bottle, bed.

OMG... this was my LO exactly. We started to transition him around the same age.
I read this recommendation on another site and I thought it was never going to work and I was pleasantly surprised.
roll up a towel on each side of baby.
Place under crib sheet
take boppy pillow and place at the bottom of baby (the opening facing baby). Let his legs rest on it
Put a wedge or roll up some rec. blankets under the crib (some babies don't like to lay flat).
Between the towels and the boppy he will fill snuggled and secure.
After a few days remove the boppy
After a few more days remove the blankets
It took about a week before he transitioned from the RnP, but it worked.

I would not sleep train that young. We worked on it little by little and by 8 months (maybe closer to 9  ) we were out of the RNP.

I think my DS is just a few days younger than yours...now the caveat here is the he was in the bassinnett RnP, not the upright one. But anyway...what I did a few weeks ago was made sure he took his nap in his crib. I put him down when he was dozing during the day (ie: right after a bottle) so he was always all set to fall asleep (didn't give him an opportunity to fuss because he was practically passed out already). Then when he woke up I leave him in there for a bit but stay with him, smile, tickle, put on his favorite mobile, etc. In other words...I do everything I can to make it a happy place for him for short periods during the day. After a week or two of that, I started using it as a place to get him dressed after a nighttime bath so again, he's in there but he's having a good experience (he loves getting powdered up after a bath). He usually goes to sleep after his bath so eventually he would doze in there as I finished dressing him. The transition was really smooth (though it took a week or two and wasn't just straight to putting him in there at night). I know this is all specific to my DS but what I'm saying is do what you can to make it a happy place for him and not just one he's suddenly thrown (not literally) into at night. Can't hurt to try. I hope he transitions for you soon!!
