adults with coxsackie?
It started at daycare. Then my 6 month old got it very bad. My toddler has it mild and my baby its healing .. Now my husband and I have it. But I thought it was so rare? Both of us? When I called doctor to ask can my kids get it again with us having it they didn't answer they just said we probably have a different virus... But we have blisters high fever and awful sore throat. We don't have rash asd bad as baby at all and we feel so sick now we know how he was feeling heart breaks even more
This has been going on since Thursday but feels like longer
We are so clean husband borders on ocd we used Lysol I think I commented on here I wouldn't have time to clean all toys but I did!
I feel like we must be gross to have caught this like we didn't wash our hands right?
Could this lead to something more serious?
When can I go back to work?
Will the baby get this again?
Why did he get this the worse?
Any other adults get this here?

My dh got it when my oldest dd caught it. We have no idea where she got it from because she wasn't in daycare or school. Dh was pretty sick with it. He had really high fever and the blisters. He had to take off a week from work because he was so sick. Than it just went away. I don't think anything serious will happen. Kids and adults can get it again.

From what I know you can't get the same strain more then once, my daycare provider told me that so don't quote me. Even so, I would try to stay away from the kids as much as possible

My sister just got it from her son. Everyone's immune system is different. IMO being extremely clean doesn't stop you from getting things and sometimes works against you.

adults with coxsackie?
My husband and I both caught it from my daughter when she was around 11months. And we are clean too, I promise. Lol.
But I catch just about everything my daughter gets. She is a very kissy little girl and is always sharing food etc.
I got it much worse than both of them and I hear it is worse for adults. So, I wouldn't imagine that your kids were feeling as bad as you were.

I got it from DS (and I'm pregnant). I didn't have it bad. I always wash my hands, but when DS is sick, he likes to put one thumb in his mouth and one in mine, so that's probably how I got it. We were on vacation at the time and my bro got it too- he had a REALLY bad case and had to take off work. Even though I only had a few blisters, they hurt so bad. I cried the first night I had them because I felt so bad about changing DS and putting shoes on him when he had them! Neither me nor my brother passed it back to DS and my brother was over every day when he had it.

Adults usually get it in the form of strep. Strep can also cause a rash... Go get a strep test and then they will put you on an antibiotic if you have it.

I have gotten it now twice as an adult. I have no idea how I got it the first time. This time it was Sesame Place. I was very careful because I know how easy it is to get. My 2yr old and 4month old had it & my 4 month old got me with her wet hand right in the mouth. I was told there are 31 different strains but I don't think you can get the same one twice. If it is Coxsackie I think you are contagious when you have the fever and up to 4 days after? Something like that but the rash stays longer around a week. Feel better it Sux I know

Assuming you caught it from your kids, you should have the same strand they did so they wouldn't catch it again. Feel better soon!

I think its often mistaken for strep. they tested Brielle for strep when her fever was still there a week after cox thinking maybe it wasn't cox she had.

That is incorrect I am almost positive. Coxsackie has similar symptoms in adults to strep. You should get a strep test just in case because symptoms can be similar. Coxsackie can have complications such as meningitis, encephalitis or endocarditis. You could get bronchitis or a pneumonia from the runny nose post nasal issues some get. But you have to have the strep bacteria to get strep. Coxsackie is viral.
I got it from my DD while pregnant with younger. She was only 17 or 18 months and drooling like crazy bc she couldn't swallow from the pain. She coughed and sneezed on me earlier on the day she came down with it. So yes adults can get it. I only had the worst sore throat I have ever had. Strep test was neg. I did not have a fever. It was miserable!! DH did not get it. He cleaned everything throughly but with me taking care of her day and night I am not surprised I got it.
Some adult doctors don't always get it. Mine tells me adults never get sick from their kids unless there is something wrong. My ped thought that was hysterical and said your DR must not have kids bc parents are vomited on, coughed on etc.

Back in May DS brought it home from day care and had a mild case (fever just one day). DH got it from him and got it BAD and had strep ALSO. It was crazy. He was so miserable for 5 days.
DS is just getting over a pretty bad case of it now.... terrible.

exactly. Otherwise, you would think they would have a vaccine for it.
Since there are so many strains, a vaccine is pretty much useless.

Since there are so many strains, a vaccine is pretty much useless.
Very true... but only certain strains result in hand foot and mouth disease. They are working on vaccines for the strains that are worst. Just like rotovirus, that covers the 4 worse strains of the rotovirus, not all of them.

This is true. My DD had it and fortunately DH and I didn't get it. I'm surprised I didn't get it b/c she was all over me when she was sick. I hope you feel better soon! Coxsackie is the worse!
