Napping help
Ds is only 10 weeks old and since birth rarely sleeps during the day (no complaints since his nights are decent). This past week he seems to need to nap 2 hours after a feeding which is great, but he doesn't seem to know how to get to sleep. I end up rocking him in the rock n play and holding a pacifier for him. I'm afraid of creating bad habits but at the same time don't know what else to do. He seems to try to find his thumb, but isn't successful. I let him cry for a few minutes but he gets all red and sweaty I just can't help to help him since I know what he needs. My mom watches him occasionally (and will be watching him full time when I return to work in 2 weeks) and she hates when I rock him to sleep. Any suggestions on how to teach him to nap on his own? My hope is he finds his thumb and I no longer need to help him but who knows.
At night he normally falls asleep on his own....sometimes it's while I am burping him and other times he just gets swaddled and goes to sleep

Re: Napping help
At 10 weeks old I wouldn't worry about creating bad habits. DS napped primarily in his swing, while it was swinging until he was 5 months old. Though he slept in his crib overnight. Once he realized he was more comfortable in the crib for naps, too, he just transitioned easily. I wouldn't worry about rocking him to sleep. He's still so young and needs the help.

This exactly. DD napped in her swing while it was moving until 5 months, then transitioned easily to the crib. This way, she napped for 2 hours at a time! It was nice because she developed a schedule this way and then kept it when she transitioned to the crib. I would just do what works at this age.

I think he is very young to let cry and expect him to fully put himself to sleep. You can try putting him down drowsy but awake and see how he does. If I were you I'd get a sleep book and try some of the suggestions but not be too rigid with it. He's only 10 weeks.

Napping help
My daughter is 10 months and still needs help. Lol 10 weeks your lo is so tiny and needs his mamma for comfort. I would do anything that helped soothe my lo at that age especially to sleep. Can you speak with your mom about what works and what you'd like? Sleep "training" doesn't start(if you choose to do it) for months and lettin the baby cry is not helping them feel secure.

Napping help
Maybe 2 hours is still too long for him. At that age, DD was only awake for an hour at a time most of the day. We got into a good routine by then where she took her first nap of the day in the swing. She always fell asleep easily in there so it let me shower and get ready for the day and set her up to be rested. The rest of her naps were in the car, the rock and play, or the crib depending on what we were doing. By 4 months she was solely napping in the crib or carseat if we were out. I got her started in there by staying in the room (folding laundry or reading) so she could see me and I could rub her belly if she started to cry. I let her fuss a little but if she cried I did soothe her. It worked well and she has always been a great napper from then on. I just always made sure to put her down as soon as she made any fussy noises or rubber her face so she didn't get overtired.
