Early riser = tired mommy
Dd is 17 months old. This past week she's decided she wants to wake at 5:50am!! Prior to this week she would get up at around 730. I've tried keeping her up a little later then usual, moving her nap time from 1pm to 11am, shortening her nap from 2.5 hours to 1.5 hours....nothing seems to work. She doesn't wake up her happy self - she yawns and is cranky for a bit. Anyone have any suggestions on getting her back to her routine? Or has anyone been through this and can give me encouragement that she may go back on her own...or I destined to start my day before 6am

Re: Early riser = tired mommy
What is she doing at 5:50, crying? If she is just awake and talking to herself I would leave her. DD1 was a notorious early riser. Finally when she was old enough (around 2) we started using the OK to wake Owl and that helped us tremendously. Now at almost 4 she is like a teenager in the mornings, pulls the covers over her head when we try and get her up

She stays there for 15 mins before crying and then it's crying for a few mins, followed by resting for a few mins. She eventually throws her stuffed animals out of the crib which doesn't bother her but when she throws her blankie out she gets hysterical. Today she stayed in the crib for more than an hour before I was able to get her up but she didn't go back to sleep during that time

Re: Early riser = tired mommy
Maybe wait until she's really upset until you go in. Soon she will realize that it is more enjoyable to sleep LOL

Re: Early riser = tired mommy
My DD has woken up at 5:00-5:45 am since day ONE... and she is 2 years old in August and STILL wakes up 5:00-5:45. Believe me we have tried EVERYTHING. But since this is unusual for her, maybe she was just having a sleep regression and it will pass. Her sleeping until 6:00 am is a miracle and a blessing LOL.

Re: Early riser = tired mommy
It might be a phase. My boys were late risers then a few weeks ago they started getting up at 6:30am. It lasted about 2 weeks and went back to normal. TG

Re: Early riser = tired mommy
DS did this at the 17 month mark as well. He had been waking at 630-7am, and moved to 515-545...I think it was early 18m sleep regression. It lasted a few weeks before he was back to waking at 7/730am. He was still napping 2x per day, so I just ended up putting him in earlier for his am nap. I can't say what changed that he got back on schedule, so I don't have much advice. Just wanted to let you know that it was a mystery to us and it was a few rough weeks, but it passed. Good luck, and try to get to bed yourself as early as you can for a few weeks!

Re: Early riser = tired mommy
Thanks for all the words of encouragement. I didn't realize there's an 18 month sleep regression - let's hope that's all it is. 5:45 wouldn't be terrible if I didn't have a newborn at home that I wake to feed throughout the night. I hope it won't last too much longer...This Momma needs some sleep!

And a 19, 20, 21 if it's my DD lol. She does this every once in awhile. I know she is getting canines now so that could be it.

Re: Early riser = tired mommy
Is she getting any teeth? My DD wakes early when she gets teeth. She's not unhappy but she just up. And not 5am but 6:30-7 which is early for her. Also is she very wet and can you limit liquids? And finally sometimes DD decides p get up and poop early and can't fall back asleep.

Re: Early riser = tired mommy
I totally feel your pain! DS was getting up at 7am. Then he got an ear infection and two teeth came in and he started to get up at 5AM. Well the teeth are in and he is 100% healthy and he won't sleep past 5:45AM anymore. I am so tired in the AM, I just bring him in the playroom and lie on the floor while he plays. I'm not asking for him to sleep until 9 or anything, but 7AM would be so nice!
