Those who have 3 or more kids.....getting kids out of the house?

Do you take the kids out by yourself? I've got three kids. 3.5 year old twins and a 23 month old. There are some library programs I am thinking of taking the kids to but II a nervous about them acting up. They are TOUGH and feed off each other and they just don't listen but we can't spend the whole summer at home. Is it crazy if i take all three of them to the library by myself? I get anxiety thinking about it.

I don't have 3, but I think you just have to do it! DS is loud and runs around at home, but when the nanny goes to the library with him, he sees everyone else being quiet and follows their lead. Obviously not every time, but I think you might be surprised by how they are in public.

And the library during the day shouldn't be too daunting, especially if it's a class, because there will be other kids around for them to interact with.

I have 3 also and it's really hard to take them all anywhere by myself! But I definitely think the library is a good place to try it. Mine are different ages so it's a bit more difficult... my twins are only 2 so it's a bit more difficult since they don't' understand as much.

Bring snacks and be prepared to leave at any moment.

It's hard enough to get out of the house with my one (23 month old)... I can't imagine I would get out with 3-- although I do agree they may act better if they got out of the house more, sometimes they surprise you.

Are there dance/music library programs by you? I take DS to a babies boogie class (up to 24 months, but siblings are welcome) and it's fun and full of running around, playing with toys, and dancing. You wouldn't have to worry about them getting a little crazy!

Yes! This is actually what I want to take them to! It's for 2 hear olds up until preschool so they are all the perfect age for it. Thanks! It makes me feel a little better knowing they'll burn off some energy while doing it! Now that i am a SAHM i know we can't stay home everyday but it's so intimidating being by myself!!

I have 4... a 5 yo, a 3.yo and newborn twins. I have had to do it a few times and it's not too bad, but that is only because the newborns can't move and don't talk back!!! Lol.... good luck. I totally understand!!!!

The more you do it the easier it gets.

I think the library is a great place to start. My twins were already going to a class at the library when ds was born so at 8 weeks ish I started bringing him too. Yes it gets harder once the younger one is mobile but our library is contained and our children's program is downstairs by itself.

Anywhere we go (unless there is a lot of walking) my 16 month goes in the umbrella stroller or the shooing cart. I taught my twins to hold the stroller or cart in parking lots and that is something they really listen to. If it is a longer outing I take my citi mini with a glider board.

Trips to the bathroom are difficult but doable. I just keep my younger ds in the stroller.

Target is a good place to start or practice because you can bribe them with a toy from the $ section Chat Icon

I take them almost anywhere alone. Except the beach, amusement parks and some big parks. It's exhausting sometimes. Bring snacks and be prepared to leave. The twins are starting to really test some limits when we are out and I will just leave if they are not behaving.

Exactly this....Like poster above I don't do big parks amusement parks or the beach and I also do not take them food shopping unless its to pick up a small amount....other than that I take them everywhere ....bathroom trips are difficult but if you have a travel potty in the car it doesn't have to be an issue ....and as far as behavior I agree with above poster that you need to be ready to leave even if you are having a good time talking to friends etc if your child is not listening and behaving badly having to leave is sometimes a must ....btdt and it stinks but can be necessary to make a point ....totally doable and like ripping off a bandaid lol just do it and it will become a routine to get them out everyday ...good luck

I just force myself to drag the kids places by myself.
North Shore beaches are perfect. No need to worry about waves.

Target, mall, chain restaurants, food shopping, White Post, berry picking, playgrounds, bouncy places, bike riding, etc.

Not a fan of going to the library by myself w them. The snooty people there give me death looks every time the kids laugh or talk.

My twins are 4 now and the baby is 2, but I've been doing these things by myself w them since they were born. DH is the same. He took them to the diner for breakfast one day last week. When I was at work.

Thanks ladies. When it was just the twins it was so much easier. I took them everywhere by myself. Even when the baby was an infant. But now that the baby is almost 2 he wants to walk and I can't let him do that while we are out. I'm going to start with the library dance class and take just keep doing it. Eventually build up to other places. I do go to target with them because they have the 3 seater shopping carts. I'm probably having anxiety over nothing. They'll probably make a liar out of me and be perfect angels :)
