Rear facing convertible carseat?

When did you put your child in a RF convertible car seat instead of the infant seat?

My mom watches my 4 month old son and we put one base in her car and are always moving the extra base from my car to my husbands car and back again.

Was thinking of getting a convertible car seat for my husband's car but not sure if he was too young for it?

11 months! Depends on height/weight! Look up the manufacturer recommendations for your specific seat!

I don't have a seat yet, I was going to buy one. He's 15lbs and 24". Do you think he's too small?

I didn't start to use the convertible seat until after a year. He is so tiny he always fit very comfortably in the infant seat.

Rear facing convertible carseat?

You can put them in it from birth outside of a very small baby.

But we moved my DS at 4 months and he loved it!

Most convertible seats can be used from 4lbs and up. The infant seat is just an option for those that want to carry it around (which most people do). So he is definitely not too small!

The best convertible seat for you will depend on your car and will rear-face as long as possible. I recommend joining the facebook group Car Seats For The Littles and asking there for recommendations. Include the make and model of the car as well as your son's stats.

A new seat just came out that got very good reviews and is supposedly good for most types of cars - Graco 4Ever. It's good for newborns - 100lbs! I'm considering getting one.

3 mos for my DS
5 mos for my DD

Rear facing seats have weight restrictions, just check what they are for your seat. Most are as low as 10 lbs (maybe even lower.)

Rear facing convertible carseat?

I guess what I'm really asking is at this point in time, should I buy another base for my husbands car, or just get a convertible seat?

We switched DD at 4 months

At this point I suggest just buying the convertible vs another base

What car seat do you have and what are the height/weight limits on it

I agree. You're going to have to get the convertible soonish anyway. Why spend the $50 or whatever it is on a base you'll only use for a couple of more months?

Either way, you're eventually going to need the convertible. I would get that and if you find you're really not happy using it you can always get another base and pack away the convertible for later.

That's what I was thinking too, but wasn't sure if he was too small but it seems like he will be OK.

This is pretty much true! A lot of people never use an infant bucket seat they go straight to convertibles. Make sure you check the seat weight and height requirements.

both of my kids were in the infant carrier for over a year. so having two bases was so worth it.

Re: Rear facing convertible carseat?

we switched both kids around 6 months. I could have done it sooner. we had a 2nd base for the infant and rarely used it it was a waste for us. We were always just in my car.

I would get a convertible now. No way would I waste $ on another base at this point. Even though the seat says it goes up to 35 lbs, you will probably switch sooner and they do get squished in there. At least my kids. I felt bad always squishing them in especailly during the winter with thicker cloths

We did it at 6.5 months, he was getting to heavy for me to cart him around in the infant carrier.

I would just go with the convertible seat. Your LO is safe in it now.

Re: Rear facing convertible carseat?

We had 2 bases - one in each car - for the infant carrier.

We switched to a convertible car seat at 12 mos., but dd was tiny (16 lbs at her first bday) and left the base in my husbands car, for use w the carrier on the rare occasion she's in that car. At 18 mos., she is still well under the weight/height requirement for the infant carrier!
